Riurau Film Festival takes back the towns of the Marina Alta

The Riurau Film Festival arrives again to fill various locations in the Marina Alta with good cinema and various activities for film buffs and those curious about the audiovisual world. This year marks the tenth edition of both the festival and the Escola de Cinema Riurau. For this reason, on September 11, the last day of the contest, the special awards ceremony will take place in Xàbia.

The municipalities that will receive the screenings are distributed among those that surround the Montgó: on Friday, August 27 in Gata de Gorgos, on the 28th in La Xara, on September 3 in Jesús Pobre, on the 4th and 5th in Dénia and the 10th and 11th in Xàbia. This year, the Riurau Film Festival has 3 euros in prizes and has received 800 short films from up to 450 different countries.

Festival sections

The short film contest is divided into five sections for the 49 selected short films: Dance Film, Fiction in Valencian-Catalan, Social Fiction dedicated to Mental Health, Environment and the Sea and General Fiction. This last section integrates the films with LGTBIQ + themes, which wants to approach the Hollywood Protocol of normalizing the integration of this type of films.

There are also three more sections, the RiurauExpress, Off School, which houses films by former students and filmmakers of the ECRR, and the section that projects shorts from students from the past year.

New trophy "El bancalet"

Regarding the prizes, the festival organization has changed the trophy for the winners for a small sculpture in Aragonese Alabaster, by the artist Manolo Navas and produced in the Pedra de Pedreguer Workshop. The statuette receives the name of "El Bancalet" and claims the historical and cultural importance of these cultivation terraces in the Marina Alta. In addition, the award for Best LGTBIQ + Film continues.

Complementary activities of the RRFF

On the other hand, various activities are organized to enrich the festival and its celebration. The Cursillo for young filmmakers on September 1 and 2 in Dénia; the round table "Non-Binary People in Cinema and Today" and "Cinema and Mental Health" on September 3 at Jesús Pobre and the conference on Audiovisual Language given by José Mª Fraguas de Pablo on September 9 at the Soler Blasco Museum in Xàbia.

In addition, on September 4 the VIII Meeting of Dance Film in Artístics, Dénia will take place. On this occasion, the theme of last year will be expanded, "Dance Film and Music II".

The jury by sections

Finally, the Fiction jury is made up of Patricia Picazo Sanz (Film and Television producer, UPV professor in the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences) José María Fraguas de Pablo (editor, filmmaker, director, screenwriter and writer), Luís Eduardo Pérez Cuevas, (screenwriter, director and journalist), and Víctor Van Herpt Valdivia (projectionist, and art and part of the association). Christine Willems, acted as secretary, without vote.

For the Dance Film section, the jury is made up of specialists from the Center Coreogràfic de Denia, headed by Joan Bernat Pineda. And the jury of the Environment and the Sea section is made up of Paco Torner, Pepa Ferrando and Pablo García.
