Ondara is in the north of the Marina Alta region. Its municipal area has approximately 10 square kilometers and borders with Dénia, Beniarbeig, Benimeli, Pedreguer and Vergel. Its inhabitants were, according to the 2019 census, 6894 people.
The municipality of Ondara does not have access to the sea and is practically flat, except for the Segaria mountain, which is about 370 meters high. The place name (place name) would come from "Ondar", an Iberian word that means "arenal".

Several Roman villas have appeared very close to the urban area. In Muslim times, the municipality gained relevance: from this moment it is the Clock Tower, a vestige of the Muslim castle. With the conquest of Jaume I the first Christian settlers arrived. At this time, the municipality belonged first to Berenguer de Palau, archbishop of Barcelona, then to Pere d'Aragó, son of King Jaume II, and later to the lineage of the Cardona, Catalan nobles.
Already in the XNUMXth century, the cultivation of raisins made the municipality grow and the inhabitants of Ondara. But the splendor wiped out phylloxera, a vine disease that ruined the local economy and sent many, many ondarencs to emigration, especially to Algeria and Argentina.
