The Pego City Council is advancing its project to expand and improve green spaces, in collaboration with the local expert in tree planting and care, Ángel Sastre. This project, started a year ago, has contemplated the planting of more than 200 trees of various species in different parts of the municipality during 2023, as well as care work for the existing vegetation in the town.
The proposal to improve green spaces has been based on naturalization and accompanied natural pruning, a technique that seeks to interfere as little as possible with the natural growth of trees, prioritizing the removal of parts that interfere with track objects and areas where people pass by.
According to Sastre, this methodology not only reduces maintenance costs and the presence of pests, but also reduces the use of chemical products. Clear examples of this strategy can be seen in Passeig Cervantes and in the Convent area, where an exhaustive review of the vegetation has been carried out and selective pruning and conditioning techniques have been applied.
The Councilor for Services and Urban Quality, Ricardo Sendra, has thanked the work carried out by Ángel Sastre and has recognized the effort of the municipal workers in the implementation of the proposed techniques. Sendra has apologized to the neighbors for the inconvenience caused during the work and has highlighted the specialized technical support in the project.
With this commitment to naturalization, the Pego City Council seeks to optimize resources for the creation of new green areas and combat, in the near future, episodes of extreme temperatures in the town.
