Ondara's Holy Week 2024 program: events and schedules

Ondara once again experiences its Holy Week, an event with great tradition and roots in the population. Holy Week in Ondara is one of the most colorful and emblematic in the entire region, which begins on March 23 with the performance of The Passion. This 2024 marks the 30th anniversary since the performance was held for the first time through the streets of Ondara.

Throughout Lent

• 18:30 p.m.: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Via Crucis in the Parish Church. Thursday, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Parish Church, with the Vespers prayer.
• 10:00 a.m.: Friday, Mass in the Chapel of the Most Holy Christ of the Agony and Canto Miserere.
• 19:30 p.m.: Saturdays, Holy Rosary in the Parish Church.

Friday February 23

• 19:30 p.m.: Lenten talks, in the parish hall.

Friday March 1

• 21:00 p.m.: Sopar de la fam in the El Prado building, in favor of the Manos Unidas campaign.

Friday March 8

• 19:30 p.m.: Lenten talks, in the parish hall.

Thursday March 14

• 19:00 p.m.: mass in the Chapel of the Virgen de la Soledad.
• 20:00 p.m.: solemn transfer of the image of the Patroness of Ondara to the Parish Church.

Friday March 15

• 19:00 p.m.: mass in the Parish Church.
• 20:00 p.m.: Confessions by several priests for young brothers and parishioners in the Parish Church.

From Saturday, March 16 to Thursday, March 21

• 20:00 p.m.: Mass with preaching of Sorrow in the Parish Church. Next, singing of the Sorrows of the Virgin Mary.

Friday March 22

• 20:00 p.m.: mass and preaching of Sorrow. Next, singing of the Sorrows of the Virgin Mary. At the end, transfer of the image of the Patroness of Ondara to her chapel.

Saturday March 23

• 22:30 p.m.: start of the performance of The Passion in the El Prado building.

• 11:30 am: blessing of palms in the Chapel of the Holy Christ and procession of palms. Tour of the streets Jose Iturbi, 9 d'Octubre, Sant Joan de Déu, Trinitat, Roser, Major, Sant Vicent, Convento, El Prado building.
• 12:00 p.m.: solemn Palm Sunday mass in the El Prado building.

Holy Monday March 25

• 21:00 p.m.: procession of the sixth station. Departure from the Chapel of the Virgin of Soledad of the Pass of Verónica without the Holy Face, accompanied by the Colla de Dolçaina La the Seven Words. Route: Virtues, Sant Antoni, Sant Cristòfol, Sant Benet, Sol, crossing with Dénia. Departure from the Church of Paso de Jesús de Nazaret, accompanied by the Brotherhoods of the Holy Sepulcher and the Risen Christ and the Brotherhood of Piety. Route: Church, Sant Joan, Sant Josep, Roser and Sol, intersection with Dénia. At the intersection of Sol and Dénia streets: representation of the Sixth Station of the Via Crucis. Holy Tuesday March 26

• 21:00 p.m.: procession of the painful encounter with the Paso del Cristo de la Agonía and the Paso de la Dolorosa, which will contemplate with pain, the agony and suffering of its son until death. First, the image and Brotherhood of La Dolorosa will leave the Hermitage of Christ. Route: José Iturbi, Plaza 9 d'Octubre, Sant Lluís, Av. Alacant crossing Verge dels Desemparats, La Pau crossing Sol, Verge del Roser to the intersection with Santíssima Trinitat street. Next, the image and the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Agony and the Seven Words will appear. Route: Menéndez Pidal, Pizarro, Dr. Albalat, Plaza 9 d'Octubre, Sant Joan de Déu, La Pau, cross Santíssima Trinitat to the crossroads with Verge del Roser. At the intersection of Verge del Roser street and Santíssima Trinitat: Painful Encounter. Contemplation of the presence of Mary at the feet of the Cross in the Agony and crucifixion of Jesus. Prayer and reflection. After the meeting they will continue in order: the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulcher and Risen Christ, Brotherhood of Piety, Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth, Brotherhood of Veronica, Brotherhood of the Soledad of the Virgin, Brotherhood of La Dolorosa (accompanied by the Band of the Holy Sepulcher of Oliva) and Brotherhood of the Christ of the Agony and the Seven Words (accompanied by the Band of the Brotherhood of the Dolorosa of Oliva). Route: Verge del Roser, Major, Sant Vicent and Convento.

Holy Wednesday March 27

• 21:00 p.m.: Procession of Bitterness. Departure from the Chapel of the Paso del Santo Sepulcro Cemetery, accompanied by the Brotherhood of La Dolorosa, Brotherhood of Christ of Agony and the Seven Words, Brotherhood of Verónica. Departure from the Chapel of the Virgen de la Soledad of Paso de la Piedad, accompanied by the Ondara Musical Union, the Brotherhood of the Soledad of the Virgin and the Brotherhood of Jesús de Nazaret. Route: Sant Vicent, Sant Joan, Dénia, Sol intersection. The procession will go by candlelight and, upon reaching the intersection of Sol and Dénia streets, prayer and reflection of the Sixth Sorrow in which Jesus is taken down from the cross and Mary receives the lifeless body of her Son until it is placed in the Sepulcher. After the meeting they will continue in order: Brotherhood of the Solitude of the Virgin, Brotherhood of the Sorrowful, Brotherhood of the Christ of Agony and the Seven Words, Brotherhood of the Veronica, Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth, Brotherhood of Piety and Brotherhood of the Saint Sepulcher and Risen Christ. Route from Sol to Sant Benet, Sant Cristófol, Sant Antoni, Virtuts and Convento.

Holy Thursday March 28

• 20:00 p.m.: Mass in Coena Domini in the Parish Church. Reservation of the Blessed Sacrament in the monument, where it will be watched uninterruptedly by the faithful until the Holy Offices of Good Friday. The Church will remain open all night.
• 23:00 p.m.: Holy Hour, in front of the monument.

Good Friday March 29

• 07:00 hours: Via Crucis from the Parish Church to the cemetery. Route: Lluís Santonja, Plaza Major, Sant Benet, Roda, Libertad, Mare de Déu del Roser, Sant Jaume, Dénia, Cemetery. In case of rain it will not be held.
• 18:00 p.m.: Holy Offices of the Death of the Lord in the Parish Church.
• 22:00 p.m.: general procession of the Holy Burial, from the Convent. Route: Convent, Sant Vicent, Major, Roser, Sol, Sant Benet, Sant Cristòfol, Virtuts, Convent.

Glory Saturday March 30

• 20:30 p.m.: solemn Easter Vigil in the Parish Church.

Easter Sunday March 31

• 08:00 hours: meeting of the resurrected man with his mother in the Plaza Mayor. Next, Procession to the Parish Church and Solemn Mass on Easter Day.
