"Les Cures a la Vall de Gallinera, invisible men who sustain life": the story of the valley told by them

16 March 2023 - 09: 15

Les Cures a la Vall de Gallinera, invisible men who sustain life is the documentary that puts an end to the project to promote equality started in 2020 in the Vall de Gallinera. With the initiative, multiple actions have been carried out in recent years in the municipality.

The first action was the interview, from a gender perspective, to 24 local women with the objective of collecting the oral memory about those invisible tasks that women have carried out over time: domestic chores, caring for people majors or minors, among other topics.

From those interviews arose the need to make visible the old use that women made of laundry rooms, a domestic task that was equally invisible. For this reason, the Vall de Gallinera Town Hall began a search for old photographs of women using the various washing places in the municipality, which ended up being an urban collective exhibition in each of the washing places inaugurated on March 8, 2021. Currently , can still be enjoyed in the washing places of Benirrama, Benialí, Benissivà-Benitaia, La Carroja, Alpatró and Benissili.

In addition, various actions have also been carried out in recent years, highlighting the I Vall de Gallinera Women's Aplec that took place in 2022 and had the collaboration of the Foradà Women's Collective of the Gallinera Valley.

As a closure of the project, the documentary is presented in open and free format Les Cures a la Vall de Gallinera, invisible men who sustain life. This audiovisual tells the story through the eyes and experiences of women, grandmothers and mothers, when Vall de Gallinera was an island in the middle of the mountains.

This documentary is part of a larger project, carried out by the people of La Naturadora and Raka Films, in the Marina Alta. The audiovisual thus collects all the activities that make life possible, assuming the commitment and debt to "our ancestors".

With this work, the Vall de Gallinera Town Hall intends to show everything that they, the women who have sustained our lives, have transmitted in each of the interviews because they are clearly part of the living heritage of the municipality.
