The Marina Alta registers the lowest number of unemployed for the month of November in the last 15 years

14 December 2023 - 12: 06

According to the report issued by the Marina Alta Observatory, the region has experienced a slight increase in the number of job seekers during the last three months, highlighting a significant loss of employment in the hospitality sector once the high tourism season has ended. in the Marina Alta. In November, the increase in unemployed people was just 62 people, bringing the total number of unemployed to 8.601 people, marking the lowest figure for a penultimate month of the year since 2007.

Although there is an increase compared to previous months, it is important to highlight that this variation represents an increase of less than 1%, showing a common seasonal trend for this time of year. Comparatively, in the last ten years, November has presented an average increase of 289 unemployed people compared to the previous month, which makes the current increase smaller in proportion.

However, the decrease in the number of members is worrying, with 498 fewer people than the previous month, placing the number of employees at 61.364 individuals, a record for the month of November, although it exceeds the historical average in this period. On the other hand, the year-on-year growth in memberships stands at 3,60%, showing an improvement compared to the previous month.

The report also highlights a slowdown in the pace of hiring growth, with an increase in the mortality of permanent contracts in both monthly and year-on-year terms in the last year.

The labor outlook in the Marina Alta shows signs of a slowdown in employment growth and a decrease in the stability of permanent hiring, which generates uncertainty about the job prospects for the end of 2023 and next year.

People affiliated with Social Security

Regarding the number of people affiliated with Social Security, in this month of November it has decreased by 498 jobs compared to October, therefore, it maintains its negative path, like the previous three months, adding in these last four months a destruction of practically 4.000 jobs. November leaves a total of affiliates at 61.364, despite suffering this decrease, it is the lowest in a November since the state of alarm was declared in 2020 and marks a new maximum number of employees in the Marina Alta in a month of November. However, it is increasingly moving away from the maximum reached this past July (65.365).

If we compare the affiliation data at the provincial, regional and state level, the data is worse, since, in these, affiliations with respect to October have increased slightly or decreased to a lesser extent, by +0,12%, +0,88 .0,06% and -XNUMX%, respectively.

The year-on-year growth of affiliated people has been 3,60%, which represents 2.130 new jobs in the last 12 months, a figure that improves the year-on-year dynamism of the previous month (+3,38%).

Jobseekers

As for the number of job seekers, it increased in November by just 62 people compared to October, reaching 8.601 job seekers, a figure that despite this slight increase maintains the level of unemployment at a rate below 9.000 people, a record achieved since April of this year, reaching its lowest value in August 2023. We have to go back to November 2007 to see again a lowest unemployment record in the month of November (6.480). This is equivalent to a monthly increase of +0,73%, a negative value compared to the variation in the number of job seekers in the Valencian Community and the province of Alicante (-1,55% and -0,50% respectively).

Interannual, it means that in the region we have 780 fewer claimants (-8,31%) than a year ago (November 2022). This figure is worse than the decrease that had been occurring year-on-year in the last 10 months, where an average year-on-year decrease of -10,39% was chained (between January and October 2023), therefore, it is even further removed from the best records (annual decreases in registered unemployment of 28,78% are reached in April 2022 or its equivalent in November 2022 with -21,45%).

If we compare the data with the same month of the previous year (November 2022), we observe a decrease in registered unemployment in all sectors, with the exception of Construction, which sees its number of unemployed increase by just +0,83%. Agriculture decreases by -19,88%, Industry by -11,23%. In absolute numbers, as would be expected, the Services sector is the most favored, with 625 fewer applicants and a variation of -8,65%.

By calculating the unemployment rate, in the Marina Alta, an increase of 0,16 points is observed, reaching an estimated unemployment rate of 12,29%. The province of Alicante and Comunitat Valenciana, although their unemployment rates decrease compared to October, reach higher values than in the region, 15,38% and 13,18% respectively.

Recruitment

In terms of hiring, a drop is observed compared to the previous month, a drop that is common in this month in previous years, not counting November 2021, a year that was highly conditioned by the rebound after the pandemic. During this month of November, 2.373 contracts have been formalized, 435 contracts less than in October, or in other words, a decrease of -15,49%. The lowest record for a month of November in the historical series (not counting the fateful 2020). Data that contrasts with the national records, Comunitat Valenciana and province of Alicante, where hiring varies negatively compared to October, but to a lesser extent, -2,88%, -7,57% and -7,47%, respectively.

And, if we look back, a year ago, the number of hires in the same month was higher. So much so, that in November 2022, 354 more contracts were recorded, 2.727 in total, which represents -12,98% this year compared to November '22. Or even the accumulated one, the hiring that is accumulated in the 11 months of 2023 has reached a figure of 34.929, which represents 8.720 fewer contracts (-19,98%) than in the same period of the previous year. Therefore, from the perspective of interannual evolution, the vision is a little less worrying, since there is a monthly drop compared to October itself in this month in pre-crisis years, and this is more pronounced compared to the same month of the previous year. It improves by more than two and a half points compared to the inter-monthly variation to -12,98% and also with a much more pronounced inter-annual drop in permanent hiring (-18,73%).

Hiring in November decreases compared to the previous month. However, unlike last month where this drop occurred exclusively in permanent contracts, in this record there is a contraction in both types; the indefinite and the temporary, the latter being with greater intensity. Compared to October, the drop in indefinite hiring is -14,18%; in this modality, 1.501 contracts were signed, which is 248 less than in October. In the case of temporary hiring, it registered a drop of -17,28%, that is, 182 less than last month. The quality of employment has not registered major changes in recent months, of the new hires 63,25% were permanent, maintaining the trend of this year; So far in 2023, an average of 64,63% of indefinite persons have been recorded (exceeding the proportion of indefinite persons that the national registries or those of the province of Alicante or the Valencian Community have in the month of November: 41,50 %, 51,03% and 50,18% respectively).

In year-on-year terms, hiring has decreased by -12,98%, with decreases only in indefinite hiring (-18,73%), while temporary hiring again increases by +4,06% compared to November 2022 (2 months consecutive periods with year-on-year decreases and increases in permanent and temporary hiring respectively). At the same time, in accumulated terms, in the 11 months of the year that have elapsed, 12.199 temporary contracts have been registered, which represents a decrease of 4.898 (-28,65%) compared to the same period in 2022. In the case of permanent contracts, In these eleven months they accumulate 22.573 contracts, with a decrease of 3.582 (-13,70%) compared to their equivalent in 2022.
