The Marina Alta reaches employment peaks driven by the Easter campaign in hospitality and commerce

12 2024 April - 14: 49

During the past month of March, employment in the Marina Alta has experienced significant growth, exceeding the mark of 61.000 jobs, according to data provided by Social Security and collected by the Marina Alta Observatory of CREAMA and PACTE'MA. This increase of 2.336 affiliates compared to the previous month represents an increase of 3,93%, evidencing a positive trend in the region's labor market.

After Easter, there has been an excellent campaign for employment in the area, especially in sectors linked to tourism such as hospitality and commerce, which have contributed significantly to the generation of employment in this period.

Although unemployment has experienced a decrease of 234 people compared to February, reaching 8.575 claimants, this monthly drop of -2,66% is less than usual for the month of March in tourist areas. However, this decrease keeps the unemployment level below 9.000 people, an achievement that has been maintained since April 2023 and marks the lowest number of unemployed for a month of March since 2008, with 7.108 unemployed people.

The drop in job seekers is an indication of the seasonality of the labor market in areas dependent on tourism. This decrease is lower than usual for the month of March (-539 on average in 2012-2019). This reduction compared to February is greater than the percentage decrease registered in the Valencian Community, Alicante province and national count (-1,22%, -1,60% and -2,28%, respectively).

The detailed analysis of this data, as well as affiliations, unemployment and hiring, is available in the full report published in the "Sector Reports" section of the Observatori Marina Alta.

Easter has already passed, are they unemployed again? Are we happy about that? I work for a week serving people who have jobs all year round in non-tourist sectors.
