History of Alcalalí: the origins of the municipality

06 2021 April - 12: 00

In 1245, Jaume I conquered Alcalalí from the Arabs. From then on, a long history of donations and purchases of this territory began at the hands of different nobles and lords.

The monument that marks the history of the municipality is the Medieval Tower, which was built in the XNUMXth century to protect the town from attacks by pirates and bandits.

In 1609, the municipality was depopulated by the expulsion of the Moors and in 1610 the new residents, especially from the Balearic Islands, were granted a letter of populace.

In the second half of the XNUMXth century, Alcalalí absorbed the until then independent municipality of La Llosa de Camacho.
