Gata approves budgets “to focus on people and their needs”

The Gata City Council approved, in the ordinary February plenary session held on Tuesday, the institution's budgets for 2024 of 6.487.547 euros and a general budget with the municipal company Sòlgata of 7.257.552,95 euros. The proposal was approved with the votes in favor of the government team (Compromís and PSPV-PSOE) and the votes against the municipal group of the PP.

The mayor, Josep Signes Costa, who currently assumes the Department of Finance, was in charge of explaining the document that includes the corporation's accounts for 2024, of which he highlighted that it maintains the strategic lines of the government team focused on the well-being of the Gata citizenship: "The proposals of the departments of social services, equality, child protection, youth, care of the elderly... are fully assumed, focusing on people and their needs." He clarified that the personnel chapter has increased due to the approval in 2023 of the RPT, incorporation of an engineer into the workforce and the staff salary increase of 9,5% between 2022 and 2024. Expenses on equipment and maintenance have also increased. of Sports (36%), Festive Culture (31%), Education (34%) and Social Assistance (17%).

Regarding investments, he explained that in this section 476.349 euros have been allocated to carry out municipal projects such as the installation of smart meters and assume the municipal part of works such as the ratchet or the renovation of the planned streets. New services and investments will also be carried out from Sòlgata, such as door-to-door collection with the implementation of a computer system and creation of contribution areas, self-consumption photovoltaic installations, the purchase of an excavator or the incorporation of sports, dance and music instructors.

In addition, he added other projects planned for 2024 that are not included in the budget and that would total more than 4 million euros of investments within the municipality that come through subsidies: Day Center, expansion of the IES, rehabilitation of the trinquet and City Hall. As well as other investments that will be made in Gata such as the Gómez Ferrer works; Duquesa d'Almodóvar, Hostal and Tetuán, within the Provincial Council's Plan Plan.

Maite Signes, spokesperson for the popular group, explained that they thought that the increase in income produced by the increase in rates and taxes was not reflected in investment. In her opinion, "it is not the budget that Gata needs."

Recovery of municipal taxes and motions

In the same session, it was approved to recover municipal fees for granting environmental intervention instruments and for occupying land for public use that were repealed during the pandemic.

Furthermore, and given the proximity of International Women's Day, two joint motions demanding equal pay between men and women were unanimously approved, and 8M were read by councilors Vanessa Castillo (PP), Letícia Monfort (PSPV) and Yolanda Leyda (Compromís).
