The opposition in Benissa has denounced to the media that the government team has not provided the necessary documentation to prepare alternative proposals to the requested increase in the Real Estate Tax (IBI). The complaint arises after a meeting called by the mayor of Benissa last Tuesday, November 28, during a plenary session, with the aim of learning about the opposition's proposals regarding the increase in the IBI.
During the meeting, the opposition requested various reports, including an economic-financial study and an analytical-financial study to understand the real accounts of the Benissa City Council and identify the items with the highest expenses. According to the opposition, the councilor of the Treasury, Vicente Ferrer Ginestar, provided each councilor with a table with the income and expenses of the City Council, without detailing the corresponding categories. From the opposition, they regret the lack of disposition of the Treasury councilor and criticize the delivery of a simplified table without knowing the City Council's expenses.
Despite the lack of documentation, the opposition parties (Compromís, Reiniciem, CIBE and PSOE) have formulated 21 proposals as an alternative to the increase in the IBI, highlighting measures such as the reduction of salaries and compensation of the municipal corporation to levels of 2022, the cessation of positions of trust, the cancellation of the allocation for institutional advertising, among others.
Additionally, the opposition has prepared an allegation for the residents of Benissa to express their disagreement with the increase in the IBI, requesting the suspension of the processing of the ordinances corresponding to the IBI and the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles (IVTM). In fact, on Saturday, December 16, the different political groups set up an information table in the market to collect signatures and facilitated the allegation on social networks and the VetClinics Veterinary Clinic.
