In the midst of the recent forest fire in Tàrbena, in the Sierra del Ferrer since Sunday, the spokesperson for Compromís in les Corts Valencianes, Joan Baldoví, has issued statements in response to the criticism of the Minister of the Interior and Justice, Elisa Núñez, who He attributed the spread of the fire to the alleged mismanagement of the previous Botànic Government. In her statements, Núñez said: "The Government's previous management had not been appropriate and has been quite negligent and consequently has run like a tinderbox, which was what was expected."
Baldoví has today described as "incompetence" the position of the minister, who "has been at the head of the department for almost a year without assuming responsibilities." The spokesperson highlighted that "the excuses" for attributing blame to previous governments or to the Forest Firefighters themselves are running out, and he pointed out that the councilor must recognize her responsibility in managing the situation. "You must assume that it was the one that had the competence and what cannot be is that with meteorological agencies like the AEMET saying that the risk of fire was extreme, the Ministry said that it was low risk."
Among the criticisms that Baldoví has pointed out is the lack of preventive measures, such as the prohibition of agricultural burning on high-risk days before the fire, and the reduction in the budget allocated to the prevention and extinction of fires, as well as the decrease in forest fire crews. "The councilor could have increased the budget for fire prevention and extinguishing and, instead, she has cut it by 14 million," she declared.
Baldoví's words arise in the context of a demonstration by Forest Firefighters called by the unions CGT, SPBBL, UGT, CC OO, CSIF and Emap, in which they toured the center of València and culminated in the Palau de la Generalitat. The Firefighters demand a single agreement for all, since there are currently three, the permanence of temporary reinforcements throughout the year and the creation of a third shift to guarantee greater coverage and effectiveness in their work. These demands show a generalized concern about the capacity and effectiveness in the management of emergencies related to forest fires in the Valencian Community.
