Interview with Héctor Morales: "Now I focus on managing and in 2023 I will present myself again, I hope with the PSOE"

11 June 2021 - 04: 00

Héctor Morales has been one of the most pronounced names in the last months of Teulada-Moraira politics. The disagreements with Rosa Vila and Compromís ended up precipitating their departure from the previous government and promoted a motion of censure that returned the power of the municipality to the Popular Party.

After interview that this medium published with the former mayor Rosa Vila a week agoToday we speak with Morales, who responds to his former colleagues in the government although he prefers not to talk so much about bickering and focus on his management at the head of Teumo, Obras, Urbanismo y Ciclo Hídrico.

“My relationship with Rosa was always cordial and I was very willful because I have always thought of the people and of fulfilling our government pact beyond the initials of each party ”. Morales denies Vila's accusations that he was always at the mercy of the PP, because for him "that has neither head nor tail because if he had wanted to agree with them, Rosa would not have been mayor because PP and PSOE had a majority to govern" .

The problem, according to Morales, was that they, in reference to his partner Alejandro Llobell and himself, were excluded from certain projects and that is why, he explains, they did not support the famous budgets that ended in his expulsion from the government.

"Voting against was something positive because we were warning that there was no consensus and what we wanted was that as a result of that a stage of dialogue would begin." But the expected dialogue did not come. "It was a total expulsion, there was not a single call from the mayor and that, for me, shows a clear political myopia."

"To this day I am still a socialist with a license"

The mayor insists that he was waiting for a signal and in that sense published the post-budget statement, in which they affirmed that they would not be an obstacle to the stability and governance of Teulada-Moraira. "If she had wanted to pick up the glove, we would have found a solution."

That dialogue did not take place and it triggered the famous motion of censure from which a government led by the Popular Party with the two socialist councilors emerged. And precisely the PSPV enters the conversation.

Have they been expelled? With a resounding no, Morales responds. "As of today I am a socialist with a license because that expulsion has not materialized but it is also that my philosophy is socialist and it will continue to be no matter what happens."

The mayor assures that his relationship with the party is "extraordinarily good" and refuses to accept that he has betrayed him. "We have not betrayed him, the decision to expel us from the government is unilateral because we signed a government pact until 2023 and it was Compromís who broke it."

And for a socialist so faithful to his principles, what is it like to govern with the PP? “I don't look at colors, I look at Teulada-Moraira. We work very well together, we listen to each other and the understanding is clear ”. In addition, he adds, "a million and a half euros have been given in aid to the hotel industry, this is from the new government."

An understanding that the previous government did not reach, which ended with cross accusations but which Héctor does not want to continue talking about. "This is very good for a Big Brother but I am not going to go into those things anymore, I am concerned about working for my municipality."

"Sewerage is a priority issue we are working on"

Management, management and management. That is what he says to be focused on. For example, in the management of the public company Teumo, of which he is also CEO. A figure who defends tooth and nail against the accusations he has received. "It was before and I am now, I do not charge a euro more than I did because now I have waived the salary of the city council." Morales believes that Teumo has improved a lot in the last two years.

"We canceled the outsourcing process and we are making it sustainable and profitable at the lowest cost," he also explains that they have invested in necessary material such as sweepers for urbanizations, trucks, a quad and a tractor and working conditions are improving. The objectives of his management at Teumo are being met.

Regarding the improvements in these three months of the new government, Morales highlights the advances in the works and urban planning departments. “We have brought together the entire technical office, a new public works engineer has entered and now a technical architect will arrive. We want to stop there being so much delay in the granting of work licenses and to bet on sustainable and controlled urbanism ”.

Morales emphasizes the sewerage, an aspect that Vila criticized for not being progressed on it. “For us it is a priority issue and it goes beyond the 500.000 euros that Vila talks about, we have to invest more and take advantage of EU subsidies. Now we are in the process of contracting different sections within the Plan Plan ”.

"I will run for the 2023 elections"

After the political storm, Morales is calm and focused on continuing to work until 2023 on the projects that he believes are essential for his municipality. What will happen in 2023? "What I can tell you is that in the 2023 elections Héctor Morales will run". And the question arises, with what party? "Hopefully it can be with the PSOE." If not? We insist, "If I can, it will be with the socialist party, otherwise I will present myself safely and I will continue to be a socialist at heart."
