The Popular Municipal Group in the Calp City Council has requested the inclusion in the agenda of the next ordinary plenary session of a Proposed Resolution to reduce the Real Estate Tax (IBI) and, in this way, "relieve the fiscal pressure on the families and companies of Calp.
The proposal, they report, consists of two measures aimed at "relieving the high tax burden borne by citizens and businesses in Calp." Firstly, it is proposed to modify the Tax Ordinance regulating the IBI to apply a 5% reduction in the tax rate applicable to urban properties. Secondly, it is proposed to modify the Tax Ordinance regulating the IBI to apply a new bonus of 90% of the quota to establishments dedicated to economic activities declared of special interest during the first two years from the beginning of their activity.
The Popular Municipal Group justifies the need for these measures due to the intense inflation expected for 2023 and 2024, as well as the additional pressure that families are experiencing due to the increase in mortgages.
The councilor responsible for Finance in the Municipal Group, Miguel Crespo, commented: «We believe that, more than ever, our taxpayers' money is better in their pockets. Thanks to the PP governments in Calpe during the last legislatures, the debt has been reduced to zero, and now is the time to return that effort to the citizens. “It is inappropriate for a council to be in a strong financial position while families are struggling with inflation, mortgages and economic uncertainty.”
The PP of Calp maintains that the municipality "has one of the highest tax burdens compared to other nearby municipalities, due to the highest IBI tax rate. Furthermore, among the 13 municipalities in the province with a similar population, Calpe is the third with the highest fiscal pressure.
