Carmen Ryan Tena and Sofía Sánchez Pardo were elected last Saturday as adult and child queens, respectively, of the 2022 Calp Festivities in an act attended by nearly 2000 people. The election was carried out by lottery, when the queens of last year extracted the names of the new queens from among the 18-year-old candidates and the 8-year-old candidates.
The gala, organized by the 2022 Festival Commission, was held in the Plaza Mayor. The elderly and children's ladies were accompanied by children and young people from the 2014 and 2004 farms that are part of the Festival Commission and by the festeros and festeros from the 1984 farm that complete the commission chaired by Mariola Mulet.
The Queen of 2021, Andrea Ferrández, took out the envelope that contained the name of the Queen of the 2022 Holidays, and the presenters called each of the ladies that make up the court of honor this year. The emotion overflowed when the name of the new Queens of the Holidays was pronounced.
After the election of the Queen, the President of the Festival Commission, the Councilor for Festivals, Paco Avargues and the mayor, Ana SalaThey dedicated a few words to the new queens and to the Festival Commission in general, which will organize the patron saint festivities this year.
All the members of the Fiestas Commission, made up of the fifths from 1984, 2004, and 2014, participated in the finale of the gala that closed with the presence of all of them on stage. This Saturday's event marks the
preamble to the patron saint festivities in honor of the Mare de Déu de les Neus that are celebrated during the first fortnight of August. This gala is the first to be held without any restrictions after the pandemic.
