They release the Concheta turtle on the beach of l'Ampolla de Moraira

May 24 from 2021 - 14: 16

Celebrating the World Marine Biodiversity Day on May 22, today the release of a turtle recovered in the ark of the sea by the Oceanogràfic of Valencia on the beach of l'Ampolla de Moraira took place. An initiative proposed by the Auditori Teulada-Moraira, together with the Teulada City Council and the Oceanogràfic.

This event was attended by the mayor of Teulada-Moraira, Raul Llobell, the marine biology team of l'Oceanogràfic de València and students from the Cap d'Or school in Moraira.

Raúl Llobell has been in charge of leaving the turtle in the marine environment. Fact on which he wanted to highlight that “it is a great honor to have been able to be part of a small gesture that will reinforce the survival of marine biodiversity in coastal ecosystems, so vital to the well-being of our planet and, especially, of Teulada Moraira ”.

The Oceanogràfic de València has had a sea turtle and dolphin recovery center for a few years. Injured turtles arrive at this hospital, either due to ingestion of plastics or because they have been trapped in the nets of fishing boats, among other cases. Thus, the work of this center is to heal them and return them back to the sea.

In this way, the release of a turtle to its marine environment contributes and is part of the link in a chain so necessary for marine and terrestrial sustainability. In addition, the importance of the collaboration of the people of the sea is highlighted, giving notice to the recovery center so that these animals so important for the marine fauna are cared for, can be cured and return to their home.

The Teulada City Council carries out different activities to raise awareness and learn about the environment, included in the program and developed throughout the year by the Department of the Environment.
