The Municipal Library of Dénia It was the presentation stage for the I Sexual Diversity Plan of Dénia, La Xara and Jesús Pobre. An event classified as an important provincial milestone. "This local plan is the first of its kind in the Marina Alta, but also in the province of Alicante," said the Councilor for Equality and Diversity, Javier Scotto.
The objective of the plan, prepared by the UNED of Dénia at the request of the city council, is to provide the city with an instrument for equal development and the normalization of sexual diversity.
The document presented yesterday, which will be approved in the ordinary plenary session in July, includes the actions, fundamentally focused on raising awareness, information and training, which must be developed, during the next four years, in seven areas: health and social services; culture and tourism; sports; parties and leisure; education and youth; social action and participation; and security, work and eradication of diversiphobia.
With the guarantees and rights recognized by international, national and regional legislation as a reference and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and the Declaration of Gay and Lesbian Rights (1992) as a normative framework, the Sexual Diversity Plan proposes to advance on the path of tolerance and normalization with actions such as a large pact with clubs and sports entities in the city to eliminate discrimination in the sports field or the specific training of the Local Police in the prevention of diversiphobia.
The direct involvement of citizens in the challenge is sought with initiatives such as the development of a non-discriminatory conduct protocol accessible to the entire population; holding workshops on citizen action strategies in the face of possible discriminatory, intimidating or violent cases; or, another example, the organization of intergenerational talks, where LGTBI older people share experience with younger generations.
A special section has education, with a series of awareness-raising activities aimed at young people and the prevention of bullying in the school environment and cyberbullying.
Councilor Javier Scotto closed the event with a call for reflection on diversity: "in this area, what is truly revolutionary is to explain what we are and accept, each and everyone, who we are; to banish prejudices and achieve citizen participation."
