The traditional and deeply rooted representation of La Pasión in Ondara will be held again, thus beginning the events of Holy Week 2023 in the municipality. It will be on Saturday, April 1, the eve of Palm Sunday, at 22:30 p.m. in various locations in the urban center of Ondara. The act will begin in the Prado.
This emblematic theatrical performance in the open air, which is performed entirely in Valencian, stages the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ. The socio-cultural act is jointly organized by the Parròquia Santa Anna, the Central Board of Brotherhoods and the Júniors MD collective In addition, it has the collaboration of the Department of Festivals and Traditions of the Ondara City Council and it is expected that with that of the Provincial Council of Alicante.
As in previous years, a total of seven scenes will be represented with the maximum detail, taking streets, squares and municipal buildings of the urban center of Ondara as locations, which gives this work a special charm. Specifically, it will be in the Prado, the Placeta de les Escoles, the Plaza Mayor and the Plaza de Toros.
Among the participants are members of the different Brotherhoods of Ondara, the Juniors MD collective, different parish groups, Festers de la Soledat and Crist 2023, as well as volunteers from the town. In total, about 60 people of all ages will participate, about forty as main actors and the rest as extras.
The first scene is the Last Supper and it will take place inside the Prado. The second scene is the prayer in the olive grove, and it will take place outside, in the area of the Prado dock. Next, the scenery will move inside the Plaza de Toros de Ondara, where the appearance before the Sanhedrin will be represented.
The trial before Pilate, the fourth scene, will be recreated in the Placeta de les Escoles. Jesus before Herod, will be in the Plaza Mayor. The death sentence of Jesus will be represented again in the Placeta de les Escoles and, finally, the crucifixion, in the Prado dock. It should be noted that a characteristic element of La Pasión de Ondara is that the public is fully integrated into the work, in such a way that it follows the actors in each of the scenes, also forming part of the story.
This tradition is considered a cultural and tourist claim of Ondara, being an event with great reception both in Ondara and in the rest of the region.
