From January 13 to 15, Moraira will celebrate the traditional festival of Sant Antoni, organized by the El Portitxolet theater group. The Moraira 2023 Party Commission, the La Mediterránea Drum Band, the Moraira Housewives and the Teulada City Council have also participated in the organization of the party.
The events will begin on Friday the 13th at 17:30 p.m. with the entrance of the Sant Antoni bonfire pine tree from El Fortí and the decoration of the church square at 19:00 p.m. On Saturday at 12:00 pm there will be the assembly of the Sant Antoni bonfire.
In the afternoon, at 20:00 p.m., there will be the parade of the giant demon, Sant Antoni and his entourage from the Fortí. Upon reaching the church square, the theatrical performance will take place. Sant Antoni and the devils, the blessing and the bonfire will burn. At 21:00 p.m. there will be a popular dinner around the bonfire with music. The neighborhood will be able to bring their produce to be roasted on the bonfire.
Sunday the 15th will begin with the 'despertà' at 9:00 a.m. Then, at 10:30 a.m., there will be a parade with the image of Sant Antoni from the Hermitage of the Virgen de los Desamparados in Moraira to the Church, followed by the mass of honor and blessing of rolls. At 11:15 a.m. there will be a concentration of cars and animals in the Plaza de les Sorts and at 11:30 a.m. they will go in a parade to the Church to proceed to the traditional blessing of animals.
At 12:00 pm the 'Dansà' of La Marina will take place on Doctor Calatayud street, with the participation of dance groups from various towns in the Marina Alta and surrounding regions. At 12:30 p.m. the Muixeranga of Alicante will perform in the Plaza de les Sorts and at 13:30 p.m. there will be a popular meal in the same square by the Virgen de los Desamparados Moraira 2023 Festival Commission with a musical performance. To end the festivities, at 16:00 p.m., the Housewives of Moraira will prepare a popular chocolate.
Councilor Verónica Martínez wanted to encourage the population to participate in these festivities, considered Teulada Moraira's intangible heritage, pointing out that "we must continue to preserve our identity as a people and our popular traditions that, generation after generation, we learned from our ancestors. Also, thank all the associations that have made it possible for the municipality to enjoy this festivity once again.
