The TRAM viaducts to effectively connect the region with Alicante will be in 2024

The Generalitat has made it known today that, on the one hand, "the works on the Quisi viaduct continue at a good pace and will be finished this summer" and, on the other, that this month of March the administrative procedure for the construction of the new Mascarat and Algar viaducts of Line 9 of TRAM d'Alacant, to be completed in 2024.

As stated by the managing director of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), Anaïs Menguzzato, it will be, specifically, for the second half of next year. Menguzzato has specified: «The action will allow us to put out to public bidding an economic amount of more than 17 million euros, essential to be able to complete the modernization of Line 9 of TRAM d'Alacant in which the Generalitat has invested or is investing more of 160 million euros”.

In this sense, the director recalled that the work on the Mascarat, with an initial budget of 7.902.406,59 euros, VAT included, and a completion period of nine months, "will mean replacing the current viaduct with a more modern one and suitable for the TRAM d'Alacant network with similar characteristics”.

As for the Algar, the managing director has indicated that, with a bidding investment of 9.211.482,34 euros, VAT included, and a period of fourteen months for execution, "the route variant and the construction of a bridge are planned parallel to the existing one, in such a way that the current Algar viaduct is maintained as a pedestrian walkway, as established in the listing of Asset of Local Relevance”.

The completion of the renovation of the bridges that affect Line 9 of the TRAM will eliminate the transfers that must be made in Teulada Moraira and Benidorm to arrive from Dénia to Alicante, giving more usefulness and speed to the means of rail transport.

The Quisi viaduct

On the other hand, the works of the new Quisi viaduct continue according to the scheduled schedule, once the works began in August 2022. The works, awarded for 9.857.534 euros to the UTE FCC Construcción SA-CHM Obras e Infraestructuras SA They are expected to be completed in the summer of this year. These will allow the installation of a new viaduct close to the current one, also located on the Barranco del Quisi, downstream of the existing one, with an oblique alignment with respect to the previous one and a length of 370 meters.

The current Quisi viaduct was built between 1913 and 1915, as part of the line that connects Alicante and Dénia. The rehabilitation works carried out by FGV in this section have allowed it to remain open to the circulation of the current diesel trains.

However, it has been necessary to consider the construction of a newly built variant as a fundamental part of the modernization plan for this line.

The investments executed and planned by the Generalitat between Benidorm and Dénia include the renovation of the track, adaptation of viaducts, bridges and slopes, improvements in rolling stock and the improvement of security, communications and energy facilities.

As the managing director of FGV, Anaïs Menguzzato, recalled, "the Generalitat has made and continues to make a significant investment in the two regions through which Line 9 runs to provide residents with a line suitable for the XNUMXst century, safe and comfortable, after years of loss of a fundamental service due to the lack of investment”.

The objective of these investments is to be able to maintain the operation, guaranteeing the quality of the service and, in turn, acquire the quality standards of the rest of the FGV network in Alicante. This action, like the rest that are carried out on Line 9, is financed by the European Union.
