Today at 13:30 p.m., the Fire Department of the Alicante Provincial Consortium considered the fire that started on August 13 in the Vall d'Ebo to be under control. At the moment there are no forecasts to terminate it soon.

The evolution continues to be favourable, although the means of extinction continue to control and cool down the area. For this, in the last hours, 14 vehicles, 36 Firefighters and the Forest Firefighters have been in charge of continuing the work.

Lightning was the cause of the fire that in just over a week has burned 12.150 hectares and 100 km of perimeter of forest area inside the region. The fire was very difficult to control during the first days due to multiple factors.

When it originated, the area was going through a heat wave, so the humidity was very low. In addition, the unpredictable wind made extinguishing media calculations to stabilize it highly difficult.

Finally, the area through which it spread, mainly the Valls de la Marina Alta, has a very complicated orography that did not allow firefighters access by road from all angles. For this reason, during the first night the flight of aerial means was not possible. This was another factor that allowed the rapid spread of the flames.

Until Wednesday, August 17. For the second half of the day, a small change in weather was planned that would bring possible rains and increase the humidity in the region. Finally, the forecasts were fulfilled, a key factor to give a truce to all the firefighting personnel who had been working with hardly any rest for two full days and one night.

Despite the fact that this mid-day has finally been controlled, the authorities warn that it has not yet been considered extinct.
