The Diputación de Alicante will urgently activate an extraordinary aid package to support the municipalities affected by the fire declared last week in La Vall d'Ebo, which has affected more than 12.000 hectares in the north of the province. This morning a meeting of the Government team took place at the Provincial Palace to establish the first measures aimed at repairing damage to public infrastructure as soon as possible, as well as providing technical advisory services.

The meeting was attended by the first vice-president, Julia Parra, and the deputies from Highways, Alejandro Morant, from Environment, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, from Architecture, José Ramón González de Zárate, from Social Services, Mari Carmen Jover, from Contracting, Juan de Dios Navarro, and Patrimony and Treasury, María Gómez, in addition to the director of SUMA, José Antonio Belso.

At the meeting, an action plan was established so that, from the different areas of the Provincial Council, immediate attention is offered to the towns involved in order to learn about the problems and needs that arose after the fire. Among the first measures to be carried out is the repair or replacement of landmarks and signage on highways and roads damaged by fire on roads owned by the Provincial Council. Technicians from the area are already in the affected areas evaluating their condition, as well as the road surface itself.

Members of the Government team meet urgently to coordinate the first actions

“The Provincial Council is putting all its resources at the disposal of the affected municipalities. From the areas of Emergencies, Roads, the Water Cycle, the Environment, Social Services and SUMA, among others, we are going to articulate aid and financing mechanisms to alleviate the damage caused by the fire”, said the head of Roads, Alejandro Morant.

With regard to the Environment area, the actions will be aimed at recovering the vegetation cover and preventing the loss of soil and biodiversity. The Diputación has several lines of subsidies in this sense, as well as other aid to draw up fire prevention plans, as explained by the deputy for the area, Miguel Ángel Sánchez.

The Roads area will begin to replace the milestones and signage damaged by the flames once extinction is declared in the different areas

“Once we have the first analyzes of the situation and we know the needs established by the technicians of the Diputación and the consistories themselves, we will establish lines of communication with the ministries responsible for the management of natural environments and agriculture so that, between both administrations , let us jointly attend to the actions that are necessary”, Sánchez pointed out.

In addition, the Diputación studies including projects aimed at the recovery of the areas affected by the fire in the programs that receive subsidies from the European Union, as explained by the deputy for the area, María Gómez.

In the tasks of extinguishing the fire, which has been considered stabilized early this morning, more than a hundred people are currently working with 35 vehicles and three aerial means belonging to the CPBA of the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium and forestry personnel from the GVA.
