Calp City Council will debate the issue of amnesty at the request of the PP

03 October 2023 - 10: 40

The Popular Party of Calp has presented a motion in which they express their opposition to the processing of the Amnesty Law. The motion aims to be debated and put to a vote during the next ordinary plenary session in October.

In the statement issued by the Popular Party, it is noted that the Amnesty Law raises concerns about the possibility of creating divisions between first-class citizens and second-class citizens. Furthermore, it is reported that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, could be linking his permanence in office through this law, which some interpret as "a concession to independence interests."

The Popular Party of Calp underlines its firm belief that in historical moments like the current one, the democratically elected representatives of the people of Spain must make their voices heard from all democratic public institutions. Furthermore, they express concern that the Socialist Party (PSOE), led by Pedro Sánchez, may be compromising the future of Spain by trusting parties that advocate for the independence of Spanish regions.

In the text of the motion presented by the municipal group of the Popular Party, members of the local government of Calp are urged to "reject any type of amnesty or general pardon for any group of citizens, regardless of the nature of their crimes." The document also refers to the "rule of law as an expression of the popular will."
