Education "ignores and abandons" the construction projects of the CEE Gargasindi and the second IES of Calp

06 March 2024 - 11: 11

The mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Mariola Mulet, met on February 15 with Rafael Valcárcel, General Director of Educational Infrastructure of the Department of Education, Universities and Employment, in order to obtain information about the status of administrative procedures related to the construction of the Gargasindi Special School and the new Institute of Secondary Education (IES).

However, the visit to Valencia did not bring positive results. During the meeting, both local authorities were informed that both educational projects were stalled. The request for an increase in the budget due to price increases had led to the loss of the delegation of powers for both projects.

According to Rafael Valcárcel, currently, The requested budget increase is in limbo due to the lack of funds in the Department of Education, Universities and Employment to carry out the budget modifications of the Edificant Plan.

Despite Valcárcel's promise to study the projects with its technicians and provide a response in the next two weeks, more than three weeks have passed without any communication being received from the Ministry, as reported by the team. government of Calp (Somos Calpe, PSPV and Compromís) in its statement. Despite multiple contact attempts in recent weeks, the problem remains unresolved, they say.

The City Council suggests that the lack of action by the Department could indicate a prioritization of "political acronyms instead of addressing real needs." The National Deputy and the Vice President of the Economy, Budget and Finance Commission, both Calpine and aware of the situation in the municipality, have promised to solve the problems, but their actions differ from their words.

During the meeting in Valencia, the possibility of putting out to tender for both projects was discussed, assuming the risk that the price increase would have to be borne by the City Council. However, so far, no response or solution has been received, according to the Calpine government.

"This stagnation in bureaucratic procedures represents a significant obstacle to educational development in Calp and it is imperative that a solution be found as soon as possible," the statement states. The City Council, "committed to the construction of these vital educational infrastructures", foresees mobilizations together with the educational community to resolve this situation as soon as possible. In this way, the Calpe government calls on the Department of Education, Universities and Employment to take concrete and urgent measures to unblock this situation.
