Calp seeks “imminent solutions” to unblock the projects of two educational centers

February 16 from 2024 - 12: 02

The Calp executive has conveyed to the Department of Education the need to imminently put out to tender the two most necessary educational infrastructures for the municipality. Yesterday the mayor, Ana Sala, and the councilor for education, Mariola Mulet, met in Valencia with the General Director of Educational Infrastructure, Rafael Valcárcel, to inform him of the difficult educational situation in Calp.

The two major educational projects within the Pla Edificant, the new Secondary Education Institute and the new Gargasindi Special Education School, have seen their budgets skyrocket. In the plenary session last November, the City Council asked the Generalitat to modify the delegation of powers given the increase in the budget and this is currently blocking the tender.

Thus, the CEE Gargasindi moves to a base tender budget of 7.493.415 euros, almost one and a half million euros more than the initial figure due to the increase in costs experienced in recent years and the demands of adaptation of a module that requested Conselleria.

As for the new Institute, in the plenary session last December the basic and execution project was approved for an amount of €15.392.935 instead of the €12.707.451 initially budgeted. However, the mayor, Ana Sala, has indicated that "we inform the general director that if necessary, the City Council will be responsible for these increases in the works but what is absolutely necessary is to start the bidding now."

The mayor and the education councilor insisted to the general director on the "complicated educational situation of Calp", the overcrowding of the IES and the situation of the Gargasindi students currently located in Benissa in facilities that are not at all adapted to their needs. . They also invited the regional leader to visit Calp and verify "in situ" the shortcomings of the municipality's educational infrastructure.

Finally, the General Director of Educational Infrastructure, Rafael Valcárcel, committed to paying special attention to both projects and called on those responsible for the City Council to provide a response within 10 days to solve the current blockage.
