The PSOE Calp has prepared a Comprehensive Access Improvement Plan in the municipality which includes the entrance to one of the most populated urbanizations in Calp, the Maryvilla. The Socialist candidate for mayor of Calp, Guillermo Sendra, has held talks with the Chief Engineer of the Highway Unit of the province of Alicante regarding the feasibility of legal access to the urbanization from the N-332.
For its part, the Highway Unit has responded in writing that said access is possible by widening the road in order to create a third central lane. A quite popular demand among the residents of the area, since, according to the socialists, "the access to Maryvilla has a continuous line drawn, so those who come from the town cannot turn left to enter the Urbanization and they are forced to continue to later make a dangerous U-turn.”
This access, therefore, is also unattainable when residents want to access the national highway in the direction of Altea, because the continuous line prevents it. "Infringements are frequent, with the risk that this entails," says the Calpino PSOE.
Within the round of contacts carried out with the residents of the urbanizations of the municipality, Maryvilla is the largest and most populated of the urbanizations of Calp, so there are hundreds of residents who are forced to make a detour of several kilometers to avoid having to to break the continuous line.
This circumstance has not gone unnoticed by the Calpino socialists, who have shown their concern to the Alicante Highway Unit, with the intention of seeking a technical solution to the problem. After various conversations, Sendra made a written query that has been answered by Official Letter on November 21, 2022.
In said Official Letter it is expressly recognized that the General Directorate of Highways could authorize the construction of an intersection, that is, through the construction of a third central lane, to allow access to the urbanization, as well as the exit from it in the direction of the neighboring municipality of Marina Baixa.
The Socialists affirm that the Official Letter itself states that the best option is for the Calp City Council to present the corresponding road widening execution project to make the third lane possible. For its part, the PSOE Calp is committed to the citizens to develop and present the project in the next municipal elections if it reaches the mayoralty.
