The Moors and Christians festivities in honor of the Cristo de la Suor de Calp are back with a vengeance starting tomorrow, Friday, October 21. They will be the first celebrations of this nature after the COVID pandemic to be held as normal and with the full program of events in the municipality.
For this reason, the Association of Moors and Christians in collaboration with the Calp City Council has prepared an intense program of events that will begin on Friday at 13:00 p.m. with the ringing of bells and salutes of ordinances that will announce the start of the festivities. .
Proclamation and hoisting of banners
In the afternoon, at 19:00 p.m., the entrance of bands will take place, which will tour the different streets of the municipality. At 20:00 p.m. there will be the raising of banners and the proclamation of festivities in the Plaza Mayor, which this year will be carried out by Ana Calvo, a dancer and choreographer from Alcoy and a pioneer in the development of festive ballets.
At the end of the act of hoisting the banners, all the filaes and the 2022 Festival Commission will carry out a parade to the Church to make the Offering of Candles to the Patron.
At 00:30 hours, the Moors and Christians will meet to start the typical starters that will tour the streets of the Old Town. To end the first day, at 01:00 a.m., the dance of the flag bearer of the Filà Marins Corsaris association is planned.
Santíssim Crist de la Suor Day
On Saturday 22, the patron saint's day, the Solemn Campaign Mass in honor of the patron saint will be held at 12:00 in the Plaza Mayor. After the mass, the shooting of a spectacular mascletá and the transfer of the image of the Christ back to the Church.
In the afternoon, at 20:00 p.m., the solemn procession will be held through the streets of the old town and at the end a mascletà night in the Plaza Mayor. At night, at 01:00, the dance of the Christian Captain of the Filà Templaris is planned.

On Sunday the 23rd, the events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with children's activities in the Plaza del Mosquit. At 19:00 p.m., from Calle Benissa to Plaza Colón, the Grand Christian and Moorish entrance will start, which represents the culmination of the work of the filaes , since it is then when the best clothes, floats, dances and other attractions are shown that make this parade one of the most attractive in the province.
This will be the great moment for the Moorish and Christian Captains of 2022, Pepe Toni Ripoll Sau, from the Filà Almorávides, and Ivan Plaza Sánchez, from the Filà Templaris, accompanied by the favorite, Miriam Molina Morató, and the First Lady, Alba Plaza Sanchez.
Another of the relevant positions is that of Flag Bearer of the Moors and Christians Association, which this year falls to Belén Sellés Perles, from Marins Corsaris, and the Christian and Moor lieutenants, Daniel Iranzo de Almogávares and Joel Vázquez de Mascarats. At night, at 01:00 a.m., the dance of the Moorish captain of the Filà Almorávides will take place.
Battles, landing and the "Miarcle"
On Monday the 24th, the first great battle between the Moorish and Christian sides will be fought, since at 11 am the Moorish troops are scheduled to disembark on the Arenal beach. This is undoubtedly one of the most attractive acts of the party. In the afternoon, the protagonists will be the children at 18:00 p.m. with the children's parade from Benissa street.
At 20:30 p.m., the Moors and Christians will engage in the second battle and the "miracle" will be held in the Plaza Mayor. It is one of the most significant acts of the Calpine festivities that represents the moment in which Caragol manages to close the doors of the town after Moncofar's betrayal.
The events will conclude with a mass for the dead to be held on Tuesday, October 25 at 19:30 p.m. in the Virgen de las Nieves Parish.
