Calp will create a Bofill Year Commission that will manage the program of events

The Governing Board of the Calp City Council agreed last November to declare the year 2023 as the "Bofill Year" in the municipality, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the end of the construction of the Red Wall building. This proposal will be raised to the plenary session shortly and is intended to be a recognition of the entire architectural complex of La Manzanera designed by the recently deceased architect Ricardo Bofill.

In order to carry out this project, the City Council will set up, under the organic dependency of the Mayor's Office, a Bofill Year Commemorative Commission, which will be in charge of establishing the guidelines for the elaboration of commemorative actions and activities, as well as approving the general program of the acts that take place.

On behalf of the City Council, the Mayor's Office-Presidency, the Deputy Mayor's Office for the Territory (who will act as Commissioner of the Year Bofill), the Deputy Mayor's Office for Tourism, the Delegate Councilor's Office for Culture, one member from each one of the five municipal groups, the person in charge of the Territory Area, the person in charge of the Coordination of the House of Culture, the Culture Technician and the person in charge of the Tourist and Economic Promotion Area.

Likewise, it is considered convenient that they form part, whenever that is their will, a person representative of the University of Alicante; a representative of the Official Association of Architects of the Province of Alicante; a representative of the architecture studio of the late Ricardo Bofill; and the person who occupies the presidency of each of the neighborhood communities of the Muralla Roja, Plexus, Xanadú and the Amphitheater buildings.

On the other hand, three people from the population linked to the architectural complex will be part of it, who are Andrés Ortolá Tomás, José Ivars Ivars and Jacky Vázquez Boronad.
It is the responsibility of the Commission to establish the guidelines for the preparation of the program of commemorative actions and activities, and to approve the general program of the commemorative acts that are carried out, as well as the coordination with other organizations or entities, public or private, that wish to participate. in commemoration.

Over the years, the importance of the architectural work of Ricardo Bofill in Calp has transcended its local location to become an icon of world architecture in the second half of the XNUMXth century, as is attested by the multiple works carried out on this magnificent work. architecture, as well as its wide dissemination in recent years through social networks.
For all these reasons, and despite the sad death of Ricardo Bofill on January 14, it is the will of the City Council to continue with the initial plans of declaring the year 2023 as "Bofill Year" in the municipality of Calp.
