Benissa presents its budgets: 21 million euros for cleaning, security and social services

February 06 from 2024 - 10: 16

Last Friday, February 2, the Benissa City Council government team presented the draft of the Municipal Budgets to the opposition groups for debate today, Tuesday, February 6, in the Extraordinary Information Commission.

The budget for 2024 amounts to 21 million euros. "We have been working for months to prepare the most important document of this City Council, the roadmap that will mark this 2024 and we are convinced that what we present to the opposition today is a sensible document with responsible control of public spending," explained Vicent. Ferrer, councilor of the Treasury.

The budget focuses on making necessary investments, improving cleanliness and strengthening security and social services.

On the one hand, in 2024 it is intended to carry out the most important investments of the legislature. Thus, the current draft budget contemplates the creation of the Day Center, the construction of the athletics track, the installation of video surveillance cameras and the restoration of the Tros de les Calcides Tower.

In addition, this year other key investments will also be able to be made at zero cost to municipal coffers thanks
to the 2,4 million euros that Benissa received in 2021 from Next Generation funds (the largest subsidy received in the history of the municipality). Among the most notable investments of this year are the works to develop a recreational area and mountain sports base center in The Solana, the 'Forest Fire Detection' project that will allow sensorizing the forest areas of the municipality to have early detection of
fires and the application of telematic management to the fleet of water meters that will allow the number of leaks to be reduced.

«This budget is key to advancing the most important projects of this legislature. Our priority is, despite the current times, to continue investing in useful and necessary projects that really improve the lives of the residents of Benissa," commented Arturo Poquet, mayor of Benissa.

In terms of social services and citizen security, the draft prepared by the government team proposes the incorporation of 8 new workers to the Social Services workforce and 3 new local police positions.

Regarding the improvement of the cleaning service, the government team has contemplated an increase in the amount allocated to Benissa Impuls that will have a direct impact on the improvement of the street collection and cleaning service. Regarding 2023, the budget has increased by more than 1.100.000 euros.

The new municipal budget continues to advance in its processing to be approved in the coming weeks. It is currently open to negotiation with the opposition so that they can present the proposals they consider. They must then be studied by the government team.
