Next Saturday, February 26, the Pego Carnestoltes with its traditional costume parade and subsequent party through the streets of the town until the wee hours of the morning. A party that, for now, will take time to return to the town as it was known before. Despite this, those who are nostalgic can somehow revive its essence in a program recently broadcast by À Punt.

Xino xano, Mediterranean character

Last Thursday, February 10, the program xino xano made his stop in Pego in the seventh chapter of the season under the name of Mediterranean character. The television space joined the network's grid at the end of January with the intention of finding the perfect town for Hu Zhao, the protagonist of the television space who is looking for the ideal environment to move.

With this pretext, the foreigner came to town and he got accommodation at the house of Carmen "la molla" and there he met his other ambassador in Pego, Xaro "la melona". This is the main essence of the program, going beyond the cultural heritage or the natural environment of the municipalities and focusing on getting to know their people, the character that defines them and, also, their gastronomy. A successful formula to make known to the pegolins to the rest of the Community.

Carnestoltes and Pinyata

However, one of the common threads of xino xano in Pego it was the "celebration" or, rather, the recreation of the pinata, one of the most well-known and appreciated popular festivals in the town. To this end, Hu experienced first-hand the creation of the monument destined for the final burning on the magical night together with the troupe "El moss".

But, not without first going through another recreation, that of the Carnestoltes. With Rafel Ruiz, forerunner of the current Carnestoltes, and the young Marc Pons, local choreographer and dancer, Hu delved into the traditions and customs of the Pegolina festival. The masks, costumes and make-up that the presenter showed instill in the spectators the desire to return to witness the Carnestoltes again.
