In the framework of the operation Will be, three neighbors of Xàbia, almost without knowing it, helped the Civil Guard to arrest the alleged perpetrator of 37 crimes of robbery with force in the municipalities of Xàbia, Calp, Moraira and Dénia.
The investigations, initiated in April 2022, after various reports of thefts in commercial and hospitality establishments in the municipalities of Moraira and Calp, led the Investigation Area of the Main Post of the Civil Guard of Xàbia to launch the operation Will be with the aim of arresting the person responsible.
After an exhaustive analysis of all the evidence obtained, investigators identified an individual as the perpetrator of the events. The criminal acted alone, always dressed in the same clothing and using a balaclava and diving or ski goggles to hide his face. To force the doors and windows of businesses, he carried tools.
With the modus operandi of the criminal and the areas of action identified, surveillance was implemented in the areas where it was suspected that he could act. Once the agents were able to prove the modus operandi used by the criminal, as well as the area where he could move, the investigators began a series of surveillance in the areas where they were aware that they could act.
On February 3 in Xàbia, during one of these surveillances, three residents of Xàbia detained an individual who they surprised jumping the fence of the residential complex where they lived. The suspect's description matched that of the criminal. The individual tried to flee and even verbally threatened neighbors before being detained by the Civil Guard.
The suspect, a 60-year-old man with a history of crimes against property, was arrested in possession of tools used in robberies, as well as clothing and ski goggles used to hide his identity.
In total, the detainee has been linked to 37 crimes of robbery with force in public establishments in the municipalities of Xàbia, Calp, Moraira and Dénia. In these actions, the agents had the support of the Main Post of the Civil Guard of El Verger.
The detainee, along with the seized effects, has been placed at the disposal of the Dénia Police Court, which has ordered his release with precautionary measures.
This operation is part of the Civil Guard's Safe Trade Plan, which aims to guarantee security in commercial establishments. In addition, the researchers have personally thanked the neighbors who selflessly collaborated in this operation.
