The tragedy has hit Calp this weekend. What began as an innocent jump into the sea by an 18-year-old boy has cost the lives of two people, as confirmed by the Alacant Firefighters Consortium.
It all started on Sunday afternoon, when an 18-year-old young man jumped into the sea from the heliport of the Peñón de Ifach. Seeing that he could not reach land and the water was taking him in, a second man jumped in to rescue him. Both were pushed out to sea and disappeared.
The search for the two by Maritime Rescue quickly began, but it was not until after 22:00 p.m. that a special group of underwater activities found the first body of one of the boys. During the night the search work continued until a while ago, at 11:20, the second lifeless body was found.
Sad outcome that is the first fatalities on the coast of the Marina Alta this year.
