The Institute of Coastal Ecology and the Alicante Provincial Council organized an event last Friday to publicize the results of monitoring the state of conservation of Posidonia oceanica meadows on the Alicante coast: the POSIMED – Blue Flag 2022 campaign.
In said act, the report corresponding to the year 2022 of the control stations present on the beaches of the coastal municipalities was delivered to the attendees.
The Councilor for Beaches and the Environment, Luis Caballero, has highlighted the important role of these scientific monitoring since "as far as the protection of our underwater habitat is concerned, it is everyone's task to ensure the preservation and care of the Posidonia meadows oceanic. In addition, this control will allow us to continue taking improvement measures”.
From the study it can be concluded that the data of "global coverage and density fall within the range of values that indicate that the meadow is in a good state of conservation" on El Portet beach. Likewise, it is also stated that "the Posidonia oceanica meadow of L'Ampolla and Platgetes are also in a good state of conservation."
