PSPV of the Marina Alta rejects the "homophobic" statements of the local government of Calp

21 June 2021 - 15: 39

The regional executive of the PSPV-PSOE of the Marina Alta has issued a statement in which they consider "unacceptable the public opinions that have been expressed both from the Calp mayor's office and from the first mayoral tenure. Their homophobic (or homoignorant) content is anachronistic, not very sensitive and it becomes one more reason why the celebration and visibility of the claims associated with May 17 and June 28 are necessary. "

The local PSPV PSOE have explained that they defend normalization, visibility and the freedom to celebrate commemorative events, symbolically, from the institutions. "The Marina Alta is an exemplary region in terms of diversity., all the member municipalities have made some kind of tribute to the LGTBI + cause on these dates, with total independence of their political color. For this reason, the refusal of the local Calp government cannot remain uncontested by the political leaders who fight for real equality, visibility and normalization ", they have denounced.

Multiple individuals, associations and groups, such as the Calp women's association or the VSBLS collective in Marina Alta have publicly shown their rejection of the statements made by the mayor of Calp (PP) and the first deputy mayor (C's) during the debate on the point in which a series of initiatives was requested by the PSOE and Compromís to commemorate the day of LGTBphobia.

"Because equality is not negotiable and hatred from the institutions should have no place, we censor the statements made in the local plenary session of Calp on June 14 (and recorded in the video act of the session) and we invited the government team to reflect on them ".

On Saturday, June 26, they have called a rally in support of the LGTBI + movement at 11.30 a.m. in Calp's Plaza de la Sort.
