With the increase in municipal containers, Pego has managed to improve the recycling of light packaging by 68,82% in five years. If in 2017 89.700 kilos were invoiced, in 2021 it managed to collect 151.060 kilos. The increase in paper-cardboard recycling has also been significant. The increase has been 40,36% since 2017, when 117.230 kilos were collected, while last year the figure was 164.140 kilos.
The Pegolina average in both sections exceeds that of the Valencian Community. In light packaging, the average contribution of each pegolino in 2021 was 14,91 kilos, while the average of the autonomous region stands at 14,5. Regarding the paper-cardboard data, the recycling average was 16,20 kilos per neighbor or neighbor, while that of the Community stood at 16 kilos per inhabitant.
The council points out that the increase may be directly related to the increase in containers for this purpose located in different strategic points of the municipality. In this way, for light packaging, they have gone from having 54 containers to 91 in five years. The same has happened with paper-cardboard. These went from 59 in 2017 to 92 last year.
They increase the number of containers again
In order not to abandon this task, the City Council wants to continue promoting recycling and improve the figures in the coming years. For this, the Councilor for Urban Waste, Ricardo Sendra, together with the department technician, Anna Pont, received a visit from the Ecoembes representative, Sonia Poveda Cáceres. A meeting in which the technician of the non-profit organization explained to the mayor the Packaging Action Plan that the Generalitat Valenciana and Ecoembes have jointly launched.
A planning that has different lines of work that Pego will bet on in the coming months. The first of these, already effective, is the increase, once again, in the number of recycling containers (light packaging). These new deposits “will be distributed throughout the municipality with the intention of creating new contribution areas or doubling those that already exist, with the aim of facilitating the recycling action for the residents of Pego; and to be able to increase registrations in the next campaigns”, pointed out the councilman.
Sendra thanked the collaboration of Ecoembes and “the efforts of the pegolinos and pegolinas to improve the recycling records every day. That is the path to follow, because only in this way can we take care of our environment and give our planet a future”.
