Ondara installs automatic pylons to limit traffic in the Old Town

21 June 2021 - 14: 15

The City Council of Ondara, through the Department of Urban Mobility directed by Francesc Giner, and thus collecting neighborhood demands, will install automatic retractable pylons to regulate traffic in the area of the historic center of Ondara. An environment that will become semi-pedestrian, although residents will have access 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, since they will have a control to access at any time with their vehicle.

In this way, the requests of the residents of the historic center of Ondara are addressed to favor priority parking for residents, at the same time that it represents a great benefit both for the historic center and for the protection of heritage. Reducing vehicle traffic also reduces the amount of airborne particles and pollution; At the same time, vehicle noises decrease and rest is increased.

The objective of this measure is to put people before cars, reduce air pollution and increase the quality of life of citizens, according to Francesc Giner.

The works to place the bollards and other complementary actions will be carried out at the end of this same month of June 2021. Francesc Giner has reported that the circulation of vehicles will continue to be open normally during business hours, because a pedestrianization schedule has been established through a system to promote parking rotation and circulation during working hours (established from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m. and from 16 p.m. to 20 p.m., Monday to Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m.) with a formula so that residents can access and park your vehicles at any time of the day, thanks to the controls to lower the pylons available.

At the same time, a schedule will be reserved in which only people residing in the area may pass and park with a vehicle, being the exclusive schedule for residents from 14:16 p.m. to 20:9 p.m., and from 14:XNUMX p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. from Monday to Friday, the Saturday from XNUMX pm and Sunday all day.

With this measure, according to Francesc Giner as head of Urban Mobility, the Ondara City Council is making an effort to make Ondara a more habitable place where people take center stage in the face of vehicular traffic. In this sense, he gives as an example the pedestrianization that was made in his day in streets such as Calle de la Iglesia or Calle Virgen de los Desamparados, among others.

Semi-pedestrianization of the Historic Center

At the end of this month of June, a further step will be taken in the semi-pedestrianization of the Historic Center of Ondara with the installation of retractable pylons at the entrance to Escorxador and Roser streets (in this case, in the area after the intersection with C / Stma. Trinidad direction C / Mayor). During the established hours, the transit of vehicles through the area will only be accessible to residents of the streets who are going to access their homes (with the exclusive hours for residents from 14:16 p.m. to 20:9 p.m., and from 14:XNUMX p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. Monday to Friday; Saturday from XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. and Sunday all day).

The action is part of the proposed measures to improve road safety and peaceful coexistence among all road users, whether cars, motorcycles, bicycles or pedestrians, since the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and specifically No. 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities" aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

The access area only for residents outside business hours will be the one included in the streets: C / Escorxador, Plaça Picornell, C / Major, C / Ferrers, C / St. Vicent, Placeta de Les Escoles, Plaça Major, C / St. Antoni, C / Lluís Santonja, C / St. Joan, C / Esdamientos, Plaça del Convent, C / Puríssima, C / Roser (half section) and C / St Josep. The hours and days of exclusive access for residents will be Monday through Friday from 14:16 p.m. to 20:9 p.m. and from 14:9 p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. the next day; and the weekend from XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. on Saturday, and all Sunday until XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. on Monday.

The number of parking spaces for residents will be expanded

The Ondara City Council will draw up a census of residents and vehicles authorized to access the area during exclusive hours for residents. Therefore, Neighbors who prove that they own or rent their home within the area and have a vehicle will be given a remote control to lower the pylons and be able to enter the area. The pylons are programmable and are enabled to lower automatically in the event of the need for emergency vehicles to pass. From the City Council of Ondara, please respect the new signage with the intention of working together to improve mobility and neighborhood coexistence.

On the other hand, from the Department of Urban Mobility it has been reported that in parallel to the actions undertaken to semi-pedestrianize the historic center, measures have also been taken to increase the number of parking spaces available to residents, and for this, 5 squares have been recovered in the center of the town, in the Placeta de Les Escoles, opposite the Residence, which can now be used by the residents of the area.

That traffic is allowed on 5 meter wide streets and without sidewalks is surreal. Everything for the car, nothing for the pedestrian. What nonsense.
