Ondara approves raising the IBI with the abstentions of two members of the government team

27 October 2023 - 15: 49

During the ordinary plenary session in October, the Ondara City Council approved, by majority, the modification of several fiscal ordinances regulating municipal rates and taxes. The mayor of Ondara, José Ramiro, highlighted his dissatisfaction with these modifications, but stressed the need for their approval.

The most significant modification refers to the tax ordinance of the Real Estate Tax (IBI), which will mean an increase of 14% in receipts for 2024 compared to 2023. The vote ended with 5 votes against the Popular Party, 2 abstentions , one from PSPV and another from Compromís, and 6 votes in favor of the rest of the government team.

Regarding the modification of the IBI tax ordinance, the following types of tax will be established: 0,74% for urban real estate, 0,85% for rural real estate and 1,30% for real estate with special characteristics . The current tax rate for urban real estate is 0,64% (since it was reduced from 2022 to 0,67 in October 0,64). The 14% adjustment will allow an increase in municipal income of 330,000 euros in 2024. José Ramiro argued the need to balance a budget that allows projects to be tackled for the next year without losing supra-municipal subsidies and adjusting municipal expenses as much as possible. Furthermore, he clarified that this increase is necessary due to the reduction in income and the increase in prices in recent years, which has required using a large part of the treasury remnants.

Compromís spokesperson, Nerea Mallol, agreed that they did not agree with the IBI increase, but highlighted its necessity. Also, the councilor of Compromís, Jordi Dominguis, explained that they had no other option and that they had to maintain the City Council's budget stability.

The PP spokesperson, Àlex Hernández, accused the government team of poor management and lack of foresight, maintaining that the reduction of the IBI the previous year was opportunistic and that the poor forecasts left the City Council without savings, affecting subsidies and spending. of the councillors. The PP voted against the modification of the IBI.

One of the most notable novelties of the modification of the IBI ordinance is the introduction of a surcharge of 50% of the liquid fee for permanently unoccupied residential properties. For residential properties unoccupied for more than two years, the surcharge can reach 100%.

In addition, a 30% increase in municipal pool rates was approved for the year 2024, since they had not been updated for 11 years. The review of the ordinance regulating the tax on mechanical traction vehicles was carried out, incorporating the PP proposal, and was approved unanimously.

The rate for issuing administrative documents and the fiscal ordinance regulating the Tax on the Increase in the Value of Urban Land were also modified, approved unanimously.
