Smart City objective: Calp launches app and digital screens with tourist information throughout the municipality

May 14 from 2021 - 09: 57

The Calp City Council takes new steps towards its goal of becoming a smart tourist destination. The consistory has launched a tourist app and has installed eight digital screens in its streets in order to provide visitors with information about the municipality's tourist resources and improve their experience in the town.

The mayor, Ana SalaTogether with the Councilor for Tourism, Paco Avargues, they have presented these projects, which are part of the EDUSI Strategy "Revitalize Calp", co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF Funds) of the European Union.

"The objective of the EDUSI strategies is to move towards smarter, more sustainable and inclusive cities and with initiatives like these we are closer to achieving it," said Sala.

The mobile application, called “Calpe”, allows its users to access tourist information through alerts on their mobile phones as they walk through the municipality. This is possible thanks to the fact that the app is interconnected to a network of beacons, small devices based on bluetooth technology, which have been installed in emblematic tourist spots of the city and which will allow tourists to receive an alert on their mobile when they approach one of these devices. In this way, you will obtain information about where you are as well as about the monuments or places that you have before you.

Likewise, the app offers a planner that will allow tourists to make their plans about the places and services of tourist interest that they can visit.

A total of 75 beacons have been installed throughout the municipality, linked to tourist attractions, 25 of them co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF Funds) of the European Union within the Edusi Strategy "Revitalize Calp" and the another 50 through a grant from Turisme Comunitat Valenciana.

Digital displays

On the other hand, the City Council has installed eight screens, two in totem format, of 32 inches, on the beaches of Arenal-Bol and La Fossa, the main beaches of the town, and the remaining six screens of 18,5 inches, in other relevant tourist spots such as the Red Wall, the Lonja, the House of Culture, the Plaça dels Mariners, the Plaza de la Villa, and the Plaza de España (the latter three in the old town).

Through these screens, visitors will be able to find all the relevant tourist information of the municipality.

"Our goal is that these screens serve as a tourist office 24 hours a day, seven days a week and also from eight different points in the municipality," said the Councilor for Tourism, Paco Avargues.

Both the app and the digital screens are available on Android and iOS and in six languages: Spanish, Valencian, English, French, German and Dutch.

These projects join the renewal of the Tourism website (www.calpe.es) as well as the new information centralization platform of the Smart City office, all of them projects that are part of Edusi “Revitaliza Calp” and, for Therefore, 50% co-financed with FEDER Funds of the European Union, one of whose objectives is to improve the use and quality of information and communication technologies and access to them. In the case of the app, the cost was 9.669 euros and the digital screens 40.988,37 euros.

These actions are, in turn, part of the Calp Smart Tourist Destination Plan approved by the plenary session of the City Council in 2017 and which plans to carry out the technological development of the city in order to make Calp a smart city.

It is a crime for them to plant cabinets, signs, posters ... covering the landscape. They cannot place them in a more discreet place, no, it has to be annoying. The level of politicians in this country is enough to send them all to Pluto, to see if they stop bothering.
