Annually, the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) selects the best beaches in the world by awarding the Blue Flag badge. This year, the Marina Alta has received 18 of these awards, most of them renewed.

The Blue Flags are awarded based on four criteria: the information in the form of panels offered by each beach and the environmental education promoted by the municipality; the quality of bathing water; compliance with environmental legislation; and security and ease of access, in addition to offering a series of services for the benefit of society.

So, these are the best beaches in the region that boast the distinction:

Baladrar cove

The Baladrar cove has been the great joy of this edition for obtaining the Blue Flag for the first time. It owes its origin to the Sesters ravine and is divided into two sections, the Baladrar and the Goleta, due to a rocky inlet located at sea level. To get down to it, some stairs descend the path to its shore.

Features

Baladrar is unique for its rounded stones, for its crystal clear water and for being rich in marine fauna and flora. Among the services offered, the parking area, a beach bar and the various water activities that can be practiced in it stand out.

Location

Its extension is between the Baladrar cliff, about 30 meters high, to the north, and the Advocat cove.

Fustera Beach

If there is something well known in Benissa, it is La Fustera beach, contained between two rock outcroppings. Close to it is the Cova de la Fustera, 10 meters high. The area is highly visited and admired for the micro-reserve of vegetation that it houses. In addition to the Blue Flag, it has received the Ecoplayas award on numerous occasions. Towards the south begins the ecological walk of Benissa that connects it with the Cala de les Bassetes.
