In his meeting with the Calp Local Police, the PSOE of the municipality has announced the demands that they want to launch after going through various difficult moments.
«For years the lack of budgetary allocation, the disorganization of the workforce, the constant deterioration of the facilities and the work teams, or the simple lack of will, has led the unions to classify this situation as unsustainable and dangerous. for the citizens”, say the socialists.
The two unions that represent more than 90% of the workforce agree that the Local Police have been abandoned and with it the security of the municipality. They denounce that they barely have enough troops to be able to carry out ordinary work shifts, that the vehicle fleet is outdated or damaged and that police and citizen security techniques are totally obsolete. But one of the most outstanding concerns is the lack of replacement of vacancies, "because it would be useless to update the material resources if there are no agents who can use them."
«The operating system of a police force is not simple, as it obeys command structures and work shifts that must be covered all day and every day of the year. Without forgetting that local police stations must comply with selective processes that delay the immediate incorporation of troops. The lack of foresight in the incorporation of agents has progressively reduced the workforce to compromise the security of the municipality, “they explain from the PSOE.
Regardless of whether there is a provision for the incorporation of personal troops, once this occurs, the unions denounce that such are the operating conditions and the means available, that agents who join the service in Calp, decide leave the place obtained and request the transfer to neighboring municipalities.
Among the most urgent demands requested by the police unions are the following:
- Cover vacant positions through a strategic update plan. Currently, either they are covered by the same agents, or the service does not have the necessary staff to meet the needs of a municipality with more than 20.000 inhabitants.
- Regulate the internal functioning. Agents do not have a document to rely on in the event that they need to exercise their personal and family conciliation rights or request training days.
- Provide agents with the most basic material resources, especially the increase and improvement of the fleet of vehicles.
- Being able to perform more functions, through the implementation of new units for beach surveillance, rescues and searches for people using a police drone, a canine unit and recovering the figure of the Tutor Agent.
- Alcohol and drug detection equipment and the implementation of electrical defenses. Regarding the latter, while the rest of the municipalities have a very effective deterrent weapon, the agents affirm that they do not have anything between a “baton” and a firearm.
- Installation of traffic surveillance cameras.
