The Department of Equality of Ondara organizes 'Març amb nom de Dona' to commemorate International Women's Day

The Department of Equality of the Ondara City Council, directed by Raquel Mengual, has organized for this month of March 2023 a complete program under the motto Març amb nom de Dona, in order to commemorate the anniversary of March 8, International Day of Women.

In the same week of the anniversary, on Wednesday, March 8, Women's Day, an act will take place in commemoration of 8M, consisting of a dramatized recital on 8M, by Germanes de Shakespeare, which will feature the actress Marina Mulet and Rosario Caselles on guitar. It will be at 20:00 p.m. at the Ondara House of Culture. Previously, on the same Wednesday, March 8, the Story Hour cycle session, at 18:00 p.m., will be special 8M with Artur i Clementina by Las Trotamundos.

On Thursday, March 9, at 20:00 p.m. at the Casa de Cultura, the 8M activities continue with the presentation of I won't say mai by Marian Díez Picó, Enric Valor Prize for a novel in Valencian 2020 (the introduction will be given by the writer Jovi Lozano-Seser, winner of the Prize in 2021).

On Friday, March 10, the exhibition will open at 20:00 p.m. at the Casa de Cultura Traveling through the aquarel·les of the painter Rosa Gavilà. The show is a posthumous exhibition to commemorate the figure of Rosa Gavilà through her work, which "is still alive", as stated by the Department of Culture and Equality, Raquel Mengual.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Montse Gavilà representing the artist's family. The exhibition can be visited until March 31. It should be mentioned that the Ondara City Council, through its Department of Equality, commemorated International Women's Day in 2016 with the celebration of a tribute to the painter Rosa Gavilà Vita (Ondara, 1943-2020) as an outstanding woman of Ondara . Rosa Gavilà was a painter from Ondaren who, after living in France, where she delved into the art world, taught painting classes in the town and dedicated herself to art restoration. She was well known and esteemed by the people of Ondara.

March with the name of Dona

Women will also be the protagonists of the sport in the III Volta Ciclista Fèmines – Trofeu Ajuntament d'Ondara, organized by the Ondara Sports Department, which will be held on Sunday March 12, starting (10:00) and finishing at the Doctor Fleming Avenue. The III Volta Ciclista Fèmines – Trofeu Ajuntament d'Ondara is an event worked from the perspective of Equality, giving importance to Women in the regional cycling scene. The III Volta Ciclista Fèmines de Ondara will have 80 km of route; It is exclusively for women, and they can participate from the cadet category to M-60.

The 8M commemoration events will continue the following week with the premiere of the documentary Extraordinàries: Reflex of the gifts of Ondara, of the past, of the present and for the future, on Friday, March 17 at 20:00 p.m. in the Municipal Auditorium of Ondara.

Already on Tuesday, March 21, a Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Workshop organized by the AECC Local Board will be offered at 18:30 p.m. by Antonia Ivars Ferrando (Pediatrician Hospital HLA San Carlos Office Dénia). And on Friday, March 24, a new session of the Storytelling cycle for adults will be offered at 20:00 p.m. at the Ondara House of Culture, which will be led by Mònica Palacios: Serps, grapes and other sins of paradise.
