There are many reasons. Some will say that it is ideological, but the reality is that it is not. Even assuming that there are reasons of a political nature for this decision to manage directly, the truth is that the numbers support it. We were facing an attempt to privatize a service whose total price was over 48 million euros. The most important contract in the entire City Council was left in the hands of the market. However, many of us think that the exercise of good management could generate savings if we do it directly”
Our current investment capacity, with which to buy necessary machinery and vehicles, by not having to generate an industrial benefit from which the concessionaire companies live, the VAT exemption, or the elimination of financial costs, has allowed the Teulada City Council to Moraira a saving of over 1.300.000 euros in these four years of Public Management in the MSW collection service, street cleaning, beach cleaning, going through the crisis derived from the Covid pandemic and now a crisis with an increase high prices, derived from the war in Ukraine. With an average annual savings of 300.000 euros. A lot of money to be left in the hands of companies when it can be done directly.
Well, in the last full budget dated February 22, the public company suffered a cut on the budget presented, of more than 350.000 euros. That make its good management unfeasible. Budget that included the salary increases for 2022 and 2023.
On April 6, 2022, I presented an economic study to the city council on the MSW collection service, street cleaning, and beach cleaning. With an increase in services and a quantitative and qualitative improvement of the service in all aspects, attending to the real needs of the municipality and the image we want to give. At this point, it does not escape anyone that in the activities carried out by TEUMO, we risk the image of the municipality.
On November 17, 2022, I presented a proposal for the approval of the board of directors to equalize green drivers to tow truck drivers because it is a difficult service where the driver as the pawn performs the service manually. , a service that is not incentivized with bonuses.
After having listened to the staff, to those great professionals in their demands, what they are like in broad strokes and as I have mentioned the adjustments in the categories, own affairs, holidays and the possibility of enjoying two consecutive days off.
It is about motivating employees, but the cut approved in the plenary session of budgets, to which I have made reference. It shows that the government team of the Popular Party does not believe in the public.
Teumo, as a public company that is committed to corporate social responsibility in matters such as the environment, cooperatives and associations, must also be a socially responsible company, therefore, when making decisions, it must focus on its workers and distribute part of the cost savings, in improving working conditions. Therefore, I am going to immediately propose that part of this cost savings be transferred, through an extraordinary contribution to Teumo in the amount of 500.000.
The 350.000 euros, cut in the budget that are necessary for optimal management of the entrusted services and 150.000 euros to cover all the demands of the workers through a credit modification charged to the remaining treasury.
In summary: The operation of the public company Teumo in this legislature comes to consolidate expectations and reinforce confidence in the public, work for which, sometimes, unfortunately, the government team of the Popular Party seems NOT to be there.
