The majestic building of the Sala del Consell de Benissa, the former Contracting Exchange of the municipality, will open a new vital stage starting tomorrow to collect all the historical wealth of Benissa. On Saturday, October 28, 2023, it will become the Center d'Interpretació Museu de la Ciutat once it opens at 11:30 a.m.

A relevant milestone for the town, to which all citizens will be invited, in addition to the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón. As revealed by Arturo Poquet, mayor of Benissa, just a month ago, the central building will house everything from the cave paintings of l'Abric de Pinos, to evidence of the Iberian, Roman and Moorish era in Benissa, without leaving aside the most important facts. recent events, such as the arrival of water to the homes of neighbors in the town.

The Sala del Consell has been closed for decades and will now have another opportunity to open to the public in all its splendor. Renaissance style, built in the XNUMXth century, the building's heritage is indisputable. It is located in the old town of Benissa, on Calle Puríssima, previously known as Calle Mayor.

It served the Benissers ancestors as a warehouse and center for selling wheat. According to Turisme Benissa, "a trade of vital importance during the Middle Ages." It later became Casa de la Vila, the town hall, a workplace for administrative positions, with council rooms, archives and prison.

In the XNUMXth century, it was recovered again and used as a unitary school of First Letters and Baccalaureate Academy, being one of the reference educational centers in the Marina Alta.

Throughout the recovery and adaptation process, which began in 2014 with the start of the project, traces of its relevant past and the life of yesteryear that it hosted have been appearing. Some treasures that will be seen for the first time tomorrow, when it opens its doors again as an authentic witness to the history of Benissa.
