The Department of Culture of Calp is in the final stretch of the elaboration of the bases of the III Contest of decoration of streets of the Historic Center, which will take place within the framework of the VII edition of Art al Carrer 2023. The contest will return to open up to the participation of local associations and entities, with the aim of promoting citizen participation in an artistic activity that embellishes emblematic spaces of the Old Town and can be enjoyed by both the local population and visitors.
All associations and entities registered in Calp may participate and each of them will be assigned a street or space to decorate by lottery. The necessary material for the elaboration of the artistic creation will be provided by each association. So that all participants attend on equal terms, the spaces set up for the artistic exhibition will have a similar morphology, adapting, however, to the nature of the streets. All the exhibition points of the artistic creations will be found in the historic center of Calp.
Once the space has been awarded by lottery, each association will present a draft of the project. This year the theme of the contest is "The Colors of the Mediterranean" in a tribute to the work of Ricardo Bofill within the events of the Bofill Year. The choice of materials is free as long as they are removable at the end of the exhibition and do not cause damage to the facades, balconies or other elements and do not generate annoying noise for the neighborhood.
The prizes amount to a total of €6000, €3.000 for the first winner, €2000 for the second and €1000 for the third, and will be awarded based on the artistic value of the work, its originality, the technique used, the ability to the association to carry out an artistic creation, the use of recycling materials that show a commitment to the environment, adaptability to the assigned space, resistance to the elements, the use of materials that do not create acoustic disturbances to the neighborhood.
The Department of Culture expects to publish shortly the rules of the contest and the deadlines and form of submission of applications so that the associations can prepare their projects.
