Two ambitious projects for more than 8 million euros that Calp leaves "ready" for the next legislature

29 March 2023 - 13: 29

The Calp City Council yesterday presented two of the most ambitious and "emblematic" projects of the legislature that, they say, "are drafted and ready to start the tender. Now it will be up to whoever governs to carry them out, “explained the mayoress Ana Sala. It is about the remodeling of the Plaza Mayor and the promenade of La Fossa.

The event was led by Sala and included the intervention of the municipal architect, Noemí López, and the architect of Aras Arquitectura y Urbanismo, a company hired by the City Council to draft projects, Juan Pina.

A cafeteria for the Plaza Mayor

The Plaza Mayor project consists of remodeling the space to solve the problems of leaks in the car park located under this space. But, in addition, the objective is to give greater public use and exploitation of the square.

For this, a building for a cafeteria is contemplated in the area where the fountain is located right now, with a children's play area, placement of translucent and fireproof awnings, to create shade in the square and the creation of a bleacher to connect the square with the area of the Odeón Theater and offer greater security to this space. "In this way, the square goes from being a place of passage to a place of stay, creating more leisure space for the use of citizens," said the architect Juan Pina.

La Fossa: a viewpoint for Calalga

With regard to the remodeling of the promenade of La Fossa beach, it is a 2-kilometre project that covers the entire promenade and adjacent streets. It is proposed to act in the Plaza de la Calalga creating a clear area that allows the celebration of events, a children's play area and an area with sports equipment. The grove of trees in the square is removed and a tapestry with colored circular elements is generated that is repeated along the promenade combined with benches.

The project also contemplates the creation of a unique viewpoint in the highest area of Calalga with an element in the shape of a large paper boat. Recreational fountains, benches, litter bins and bike racks would be created and the paving and lighting of the entire promenade would be renewed.

In the Plaza Mediterráneo, the creation of a tourist information office and four toilet modules along the entire promenade are planned. As for the wall, which currently separates the promenade from the beach, it is maintained, although with a new coating. All the actions are framed within the promenade, so that no action is taken in the beach area or in the private area of the buildings.

Both technical proposals are valued at 2.200.000 euros in the case of the Plaza Mayor and 6.000.000 euros in the case of Paseo de la Fossa, although these are approximate and not definitive calculations. In addition, the architect pointed out that an execution period of 8 months is expected from the signing of the contract in the works of the Plaza Mayor and that the execution of the works of the promenade is proposed in three different phases to be carried out in low season, since a total execution period of between 15 and 20 months is quantified.

The mayoress explained that these are two projects that "has been very difficult to carry out, the one in the Plaza Mayor was put out to tender and awarded and the company finally gave up, but that has allowed us to improve the project. As for the Paseo de la Fossa project, which is already 50 years old, it is an ambitious project that addresses paving, furniture, lighting, playgrounds, etc«. Finally, the mayoress thanked the efforts of the technicians from all the departments involved.

After the presentation, the public was able to express their doubts and suggestions and it was announced that the panels with the technical proposals will be displayed at the entrance to the Town Hall and on the municipal website.
