The Civil Guard of Alicante, within the framework of an operation, has arrested a man of Russian nationality who was posing as a police officer in the town of Calpe. He has been charged with three crimes of fraud and one of usurpation of public functions. The detainee, who had no record of similar acts, was released after his statement, reporting the facts to the Investigative Court of Dénia.
The investigation began in October of last year, when thanks to the complaint of affected citizens, the Civil Guard of Alicante learned that a person of Russian nationality in the town of Calpe was posing as an agent of the National Corps of Police to commit alleged crimes.
From there, the agents of the Main Post of the Civil Guard of Calpe began the steps to verify the illegality of the reported acts and thus be able to clarify them and arrest the possible perpetrator.
Therefore, on the 18th of this month (January), after an exhaustive analysis of the documentation by the agents, it concluded with the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrator of the events, this being a 45-year-old man of Russian nationality.
The alleged perpetrator's modus operandi consisted of selecting the possible victim from among persons of foreign nationality, who had some bureaucratic paperwork pending for their documentation in Spain. To facilitate this work, he used his knowledge of languages from various Eastern European countries.
Once the victim had been selected, he gained his trust by making him believe, by displaying an emblem plate and a card, that he was supposed to be a police officer.
The alleged author offered his services to manage and speed up the procedures for obtaining official documents in Spain, such as driving licenses, residence permits and even favors at the judicial level. To reinforce this confidence, he did not hesitate to boast in the presence of the victims of his alleged contacts in different public administrations.
The scam was consummated when he requested a certain amount of money in advance from the victim for his alleged services. For these facts, the detainee illegally obtained more than four thousand euros.
The agents continue with the investigation in case the detainee could have committed other similar scams that have not yet been reported.
After the statement of the detainee in police stations and reporting the facts to the Dénia Guard Court, he was released pending being summoned by said judicial authority.
The Civil Guard reminds citizens and especially nationals of non-EU countries to carry out bureaucratic procedures through the established legal channels and in the offices of the different state public administrations authorized for this purpose and to refuse to do so through individuals. not accredited to avoid these scams or fraud.
