The Compromís per Pego group wanted to express its opinion on the approval of the municipality's 2022 budgets, which arrives in the middle of the year. Anna Sastres, spokesperson for the Valencianist Pegolí group, has considered: «This budget project is late and wrong».
According to the spokeswoman, the delay directly violates the commitment made by the mayor, Enrique Moll, to present the draft when appropriate. This was in the last quarter of the previous year, with the aim of having time and economic margin to be able to review it and work on it by the opposition.
That is why Sastre explains that "we are debating some budgets in the month of July that, adding the time of public exposure and the month of August, which is almost non-working, will be effective in the month of September, at which time you would have to present us the draft of exercise 23. It was a public commitment by the mayor last year and it has been done just the opposite”.
In addition, from Compromís they also criticize the sudden rush to approve the budgets, since "you presented us with the draft with less than a week to work on it, which changed as a result of our complaints".
Regarding the possibilities of influencing the direction of the budgets, from Compromís they consider that the opportunity was negligible due to the room for maneuver that the government team finally left and "with economic misery to negotiate that was not part of the budget, but of the remainder. Specifically, about 300.000 euros, of which you already knew that 180.000 were destined for the Employment Plan. A proposal of ours from last year that would have to be framed within the budgets in these moments of crisis”.
Sastre, in plenary, added: "The excuses that there is no room for maneuver are useless because there are always part of chapters, such as 2, 4 or 6, in which work can be done to include our proposals that improve our town and the people's lives". In this way, Compromís reminded the municipal team of their need to negotiate because they are governing in the minority.
Regarding the delay in presenting the project, the Valencianists affirm: “Excuses such as the modification of the collection of capital gains are not valid, since other town councils have already had them approved for a long time; nor the approval of the motion on the rates and taxes of works, which was also an excuse for the delay, and it has not even been contemplated to include the bonuses that do not create any legal doubt”.
Thus, from Compromís they value this budget approval process as "a mockery of a minority government team facing the opposition." Sastre finished his speech reproaching the false attitude of the rest of the opposition because "they will allow budgets to be approved that by the time they are effective there will be between 60% and 70% executed, no matter how much they raise their voices and shout that the municipal government does not he takes them into account and does not do his job well.”
According to Compromís, the PSOE has agreed with PP, Cs and CdPi to approve an indiscriminate reduction in municipal taxes and fees for the next financial year 2023. For this reason, they affirm that the effects on families and companies will be practically negligible, although the government team does not was able to tell them a number). "The PSOE buys the conservative discourse that to get out of the crisis we have to reduce the public sector and leave the future of the most vulnerable people in the hands of the market," adds Compromís.
Something that, they consider, contrasts with the policies that Compromís agreed in the last financial year 2021 to rescue people, boost local commerce or recover the streets for people (Occupation Plan, pedestrianization of the historic center...).
