The Governing Board of Calp has agreed to once again request the Government Sub-delegation to open an immigration office in Calp. This is the second time that the Calpino town hall requests the creation of an office of these characteristics in order to solve the difficulties encountered by the group of foreign residents to carry out procedures such as obtaining the NIE or residence.
The Councilor for Foreign Residents, Hilde backaert, has highlighted that at present "it is very difficult to get an appointment for the issuance of the NIE or to process the residence and that an immigration office in Calp could help to solve this situation". All this in a municipality where 62,47% of the population is foreign and which has 98 nationalities.
The Calp City Council requested the Government Sub-delegation to open an immigration office in July 2020 and the mayoress of Calp, Ana Sala, as well as the Councilor for Foreign Residents Hilde Backaert met with the Government sub-delegate to personally convey this request to her. In addition, they came to propose that the office be opened in the old part of the municipality.
However, after two years without any progress in this matter, the decision has been made to insist on the request. In fact, real estate agencies and agencies in Calp also made a request in this regard, since documents such as the NIE are essential to buy a home or receive an inheritance, so the current problems also have an impact on the local economy.
Mayor Ana Sala has highlighted that, in addition to the existing problems in obtaining the NIE and residence, its main purpose is to "improve the life of the Calp population, both national and foreign, and an immigration office in Calp would greatly facilitate the residents life; It must be taken into account that the main procedures that are managed in these offices, such as the NIE or the residence, are carried out
face-to-face”.
