Calp advances towards the digitization of its services with the GeoGis system

The Alicante Provincial Council will collaborate with the Calp City Council in the modernization of its services through the implementation of the GeoGis geographic information platform. This tool, promoted by Geonet Territorial, will improve and reduce costs in municipal management, as well as bring information to citizens and companies in digital and interoperable format.

The deputy for General Administration and Finance and vice president of Geonet, María Gómez, and the mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, have signed the agreement that regulates this agreement that is part of the Digital Transformation Strategy carried out by the provincial institution with the aim of turning the territory into a smart province.

Calp receives 4.000 monthly inquiries through the geoportal

“85% of the information generated by a city council is georeferenced, so geographic information systems allow us not only the visualization of this type of data but also its analysis, from simple queries to complex models and algorithms to generate maps. , reports, graphs or predictions ”, explained the deputy.

The GeoGis system takes a further step in electronic administration as it allows citizens to access information from their computers or mobile devices without having to go to the town hall.

The implementation of this tool will allow the council to manage a large volume of information at different scales and projections, as well as differentiate quantitative and qualitative changes in the territory. In addition, thanks to this platform, the local administration will take a further step in its Sustainable Development Strategy -EDUSI-, in its Smart Tourist Destination project and in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Calp joins the municipalities of Teulada, Altea, Aspe or Finestrat. "All of them already have this platform that has been essential during this year of confinement and teleworking in order to continue attending to citizen inquiries normally," said María Gómez, who highlighted the nearly 4.000 monthly inquiries that the Calp geoportal receives. and that have turned GeoGis into an essential tool for accessing municipal information.

The signing of the agreement has also had the participation of the director of Suma, José Antonio Belso, the director of Geonet, Pedro Barber, and the councilor for Urbanizations, Matias Torres.
