Benitatxell improves safety and pedestrian mobility in two black spots in the town

February 13 from 2023 - 15: 45

Pedestrians gain in safety in one of the most controversial points in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The City Council, with the collaboration of the Alicante Provincial Council, is carrying out an action to improve safety and mobility at the intersection of Calle Capelletes and the Moraira road, both roads with a very high traffic density.

The action includes the expansion of the sidewalks of the Moraira highway to 1,5m wide and the installation of safety railings at the corners of the intersection. In Capelletes, the Provincial Council will be in charge of painting three extra pedestrian crossings, one of them at the level of the parking lot. This will ensure the safety of pedestrians who even
now they crossed the road from the parking lot to the other side of the street to get to the shops.

In addition, the council is going to adapt the rest of the sidewalk section of Capelletes to be able to expand the width of the parking areas so that parked vehicles do not suffer damage due to the narrowness, as had been the case up to now.

The final objective of this work is to improve the safety of this important artery of the municipality, in which a high number of cars and heavy vehicles converge, as well as pedestrians who go to shops and services.

“This area, especially the section of the Moraira road, was very dangerous for pedestrians. The sidewalks were very narrow and the cars passed close together. In fact, before, not even a baby carriage passed and now two people will be able to circulate perfectly on the sidewalk. We have gained in safety and quality," said the mayor, Miguel Ángel García, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Jorge Pascual.
