A tough campaign, surprising elections and pacts that seemed impossible have resulted in the investiture of Ana Sala as mayoress of Calp for the next four years of legislature. She has thus obtained a total of 11 votes, renewing the mayoralty this Saturday at the investiture plenary session, with the already announced support of the three PSPV-PSOE Calp councilors and the two from Compromís per Calp.
For his part, the Popular Party candidate, César Sánchez, has also presented his candidacy and has obtained 8 votes in favor from his bench. However, he has not achieved an absolute majority to form a government. The third candidacy presented has been that of Paco Quiles as a candidate for Defendamos Calpe, who has obtained the two votes corresponding to the representatives obtained from the elections.
Ana Sala renews the Mayor's Office of Calp
Ana Sala had incurred in the 28M elections as a candidate for Somos Calpe, a force that emerged from her intention to distance herself from her previous formation, the PP, upon learning that she did not receive popular regional support as a candidate for Calp Mayor's Office.
Since the elections were held, the Calp PSOE had first declared its intention to support Sala's investiture, reaching a government pact in which the three elected socialist councilors would be involved. Even so, Somos Calpe did not gather enough votes to continue.
During the session, and as the first speech of the new legislature, Sala highlighted: «Just five months ago I was the victim of an attempted political assassination to separate myself from political life. I was the victim and others the executioners, I have died and I have risen. This will be the government of consensus, trust and responsibility, based on dialogue and loyalty, with the general interest as its objective. I thank the PSPV and Compromís, Ximo and Guillermo for their support, and I promise they will not regret it, I ask them for the responsibility and effort to make the projects that Calp needs come true”.
Three days before the investiture session, Compromís per Calp announced that its two representatives obtained in the municipal elections would also support Sala's investiture. During last Thursday, the three formations met for the last time to close the government agreement that leaves the PP, for the first time after 12 years, in opposition.
During the live voting, the three formations of the agreement have shown their votes to the public and the press before introducing them to the ballot boxes. In this way, Sala has finally resumed her position as mayoress of Calp.
The investiture plenary speeches
In the turn of interventions, Paco Quiles, from Defendamos Calpe, has indicated that "our vote is based on some principles that are the basis of our project and we cannot find them in the other parties that have presented a candidacy, we cannot agree with the PP because Calp's big problems come from the policies of this party. In these four years we have suffered derogatory treatment from Ana Sala, therefore, due to the lack of confidence in these projects, we cannot support any of these candidates.
Ximo Perles, from Compromís, highlighted: "Action or inaction has consequences, we give our support to Ana Sala for various reasons, we do not trust the PP and we have reasons, I myself have been the victim of persecution by the PP provincial. We also do not share how she chose a candidate. Trust has been generated between Somos Calpe, PSPV and Compromís, we will have to negotiate, agree and resign, but that is what democracy is about”.
Guillermo Sendra, from the PSPV-PSOE, explained his party's vote by stating that “we have principles and values of more than 154 years and we can develop those principles on the front line of battle and not in the rear. Programmatic lines have been put on the table that benefit the quality of life of Calpinos, based on the social aspect, overcoming the model of urban speculation and the defense of sustainability.
César Sánchez, of the Popular Party, has indicated: «The PP has been the party with the most social support. We are convinced that we are the best proposal to govern because we have a better team and a better program, based on sustainability, culture, and social welfare. I will never leave my town, like it or not, I will be here at the foot of the canyon. We want a stable and consensual government and that is why I have presented my candidacy.
